Parkson Corp Sdn Bhd will have 30% more retail space with the opening of five new outlets and expansion of two existing outlets nationwide by end-2008. 

Chief operating officer Toh Peng Koon said the new outlets would be at Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway and The Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, the Spring in Kuching, East Coast Mall in Kuantan, and KBTC in Kota Baru.  

Its existing outlet at Plaza Gurney would be expanded while a seventh outlet at Bintang Plaza in Miri, Sarawak, would relocate to bigger premises.

He said Parkson was confident of the current retail market’s performance and better turnover as a result of good economic performance and consumers’ purchasing power. 

“We are expecting between 8% and 10% growth in the next two years and foresee the retail market performing to expectations,” he said after the opening of Parkson’s 30th outlet at Sunway Carnival Mall here yesterday. 

Toh said the new outlet in The Pavilion would become the company’s flagship and biggest outlet with a floor space of 250,000 sq ft. 

He said the company would spend about RM60mil in renovation for the outlet at The Pavilion while the extension at Plaza Gurney, expected to be opened by end-2008, would cost RM113mil. 

“We also hope to open outlets in Laos and Cambodia. We will set up two new outlets in Vietnam to make it five outlets in total. We see Vietnam as a new economic powerhouse and are confident of doing well there.  

“We also have 40 outlets in 28 provinces in China,” he added. 

Toh said the company had projected a RM50mil turnover for the Seberang Jaya outlet which had a retail space of 130,000 sq ft. 

Parkson Sunway Carnival occupies the ground and first floors of the mall.  

It offers 230 brands of merchandise, including ready-to-wear attire for ladies, men and children, a cosmetics and fragrances section and a toy section operated by Toys R Us. 

Toh said the outlet also provided porter and escort services, free alterations and home delivery.
