LOCAL clothing brand Ms Read turned 10 in glamour and style at Bangsar Village II recently.

“We’re here to celebrate our 10th anniversary together. Who would have believed 10 years ago, Ms Read is what it is today,” said managing director Helen Read.

“We are grateful to all our loyal customers. It is because of you we are here today. You have helped make us the country’s favourite plus size label. We like to believe that after a decade, we have liberated (plus sized) women from the constraints of fashion and to be comfortable with themselves,” she said.

Jazz singer Rachel Guerzo entertained guests at the cocktail reception with her lovely voice and deft piano skills while they mingled around.

Emcee for the night Sharizan could not resist joining Guerzo in belting out a number, much to the delight of the crowd.

The limelight then turned to the models who took to the stage to showcase the brand’s latest summer collection.

With a touch of innovation, guests were escorted by a group of mimes to a dining area specially set up for the occasion.

Dinner was a classy affair with the tables tastefully decorated with flowers and candles while grand chandeliers hung from the ceiling.

A surprise in the form of a dress-shaped cookie greeted each person at the table. Each cookie was painstakingly hand decorated in different designs and colour.

While guests tucked into a scrumptious meal prepared by DELIcious (a café run by Helen’s son Benjamin Yong), singer Atilia and comedienne Celeste Theunissen made sure there was never a dull moment.

During the dinner, Read also contributed RM30,000 to three charity organisations.

“As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we want to remember the less privileged and the less fortunate,” said Read.

On hand to receive the cheques for their respective organisations were Hospis Malaysia general manager Rosehayati Ahmad Noordin, Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Hospital and Medical Centre chairman Datuk Dr Nellie S.L. Tan and All Women’s Action Society vice president Sofia Lim.
