I bought the same Giken 7L whistling kettle from Robinsons at Garden Mid Valley yesterday, my experience was:
1) first use, i put 300ml water to test it, it whistle with rather ‘low’ tone..
2) 2nd use, 7L water filled, it refused to whistle at all upon boiling, can see the steam rushing out the lid (where the whistling mechanism installed), but no sound at all.
3) I then unscrewed the whistling part from the lid hoping by cleaning it or fixing it properly will do the trick, but no luck at all, still no sound upon boiling.
4) The inner side of the lid, after 1 use, a dark circle surfaced, i cleaned it once, and it re-appear after the 2nd use. I think it’s the plastic knob attached to the lid on top somehow decomposed and went into the inner lid surface thru the whistling part opening.
5) Today, I returned the kettle at Robinsons and got my full refund. The staffs there questioned alot and acted rather unfriendly.
I bought a whistling stainless steel made in Japan 2 days ago from Robinsons at the Gardens Mid Valley. The brand is Giken, bar code no. 8888807088436. When I reached home in Singapore, after one use, the kettle does not whistle upon boiling and there are some rust spots appearing. I was utterly shock at the quality which does not live up to its claim of “Excellent and High quality tea kettle produced for …, stainless steel…”
I enjoy shopping at Robinson when I am on oversea trip to Malaysia esp. this newly open Robinsons at the Gardens Mid Valley. When I chanced upon the kettle, I like the “refined design”, but never expect the one that I have taken, the quality was inferior - great disappointment! May I know whether I can exchange the product in Robinsons at the Centrepoint in Singapore?
