Parkson Corporation Sdn Bhd has opened its 32nd outlet in Malaysia at Melaka Mall in Ayer Keroh.Parkson chief operating officer Toh Peng Koon said the opening of its second outlet in Malacca on Tuesday was in line with the company’s move to tap the state’s growing consumer and tourism market.

“Among the potential shoppers would be the more than 200,000 middle class residents within easy reach of Melaka Mall,” he said.

He said that potential sales would also come from the more than 5 million tourists that visit the state annually and from those working in the 500 international companies in the state.

He added that Parkson would increase its existing retail space by more than 30% with openings at East Coast Mall in Kuantan and Kota Baru Trade Centre in Kota Baru.

This, he added, excluded extensions at Plaza Gurney Drive, Penang, and the relocation of its outlet in Miri to larger premises at Bintang Plaza.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said Parkson’ssecond outlet would help further promote the state as a shopper’s haven.

Besides helping to create over 400 jobs, he said the new supermarket would also help create opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Parkson is the anchor tenant at Melaka Mall with Cold Storage and a Halal Mart expected to begin operations here next week.
