Thanks Ben for the update, the info will be really useful for the readers!
wow, can’t wait to go…
Dear Ben,
if you happen to check this post again, can you please let me know whether there are any travel books such as Lonely Planet, etc.
If yes, what is the discount?
Dear Ben,
Would there be fantasy novels by Terry Pratchett on sale? How much is the discount?
Thank you.
Hi Ben,
Is the foreign language(Japanese) dictionary include in this clearance? How much is the discount?
A waste of time as usual. Overheard many people saying “not cheap”. Checkout lines are ridiculously long and place is suffocating. Lady behind me says there’s “no discount” and she’s buying only because she’s already there. Few minutes later, her hubby told her to chuck the books and leave. I also chucked my books and left without buying anything.
bookworm..so sad hearing that… sometimes sales organisers dunt think about us customers only Profit…wasting our money time …HATE them for treating us this way! im goin for times fair or popular fair then !
i have to disagree, i picked up lots of good bargains there. maybe it depends wht kind of books u are looking for. frm wht i saw, popular fiction n bestsellers are only slightly discounted (maybe 20-30%) but kids books, classics, non-fiction/self help, cookbook all very good discount.
long line at cashier but moves very fast as they r quick n many counters. ample parking at basement. only prob is its stuffy n crowded but worth it for me for the discounts!
yup.. lonely planet available at value buy price already less 30%
I agree with bookworm – it’s too damn stuffy and the books are memang not that cheap. I might as well go to the other warehouse sales or Amcorp or Atria – at least I can breathe normally. 20-30% discount is just not worth the risk of passing out.
But that’s just me.
went there too,,also agree with bookworm…but i think POPULAR clearance sales (at summit usj) is much cheaper than mph sales…can get discounts up to 90% off..
There are lots of books.Overall,it is okay.Had lots of fans so it was still a bit stuffy but hey,it is warehouse sale and there was ample walking space just lots of people and with kids also.So don’t bring kids if u plan to stay long or an adult can take them to coffee shop/stationery shops nearby.Lots of checkout counters so queue moved fast and fairly organised. Can use MPH vouchers if you have.Credit card accepted for rm50 n above think so.They also arranged many of the books according to genre but best buy books (some were not cheap but perhaps at least 20% discount) were mixed up.
Lonely planet good condtion all 30% but limited selection. Language dictionaries were rm9-20 big and small. But limited languages.Japanese only a few i saw.All thesaurus n dictionaries were under Collins.
This warehouse sale maybe not be as cheap as its previous years & not as low as some would hope it to be.Before checking out,do check with staff wht the discounts are for the books u have chosen coz some are misplaced.Waste of time if you queue and then it is not the discount you thought.
If anyone knows if there’s further reduction later?Good to know if Popular/Times have better deals for all to benefit.
Overall, good location-many parking spaces around the building.Traffic flow also ok. Staff mostly helpful not all.The unfriendly ones also not doing much but maybe a bit more senior still all the more they should be approachable & not so unhelpful since they’re quite free.
Dear all,
Thank you for your feedback. We’ll try to improve on areas which you mentioned. Appreciate the feedbacks good & bad.
a-chit we have lonely planets but not the full range.
June, we have novels from Terry Pratchett price range with a min disc 30%.
Ray, we have Japanese dictionary available. As well as other languages, spanish, german etc. going for 30% off if you don’t mind we have some older dictionary stocks going for 50%.
Bookworm, the long line just shows that our products are cheap bargain. We’ve rectified the problem and changed our cashiering system. The lady you overhead saying there is no discount most likely did not understand our discount structure. Most of our price are already marked down prices under Value Buy which we do to ease the cashier flow. Quote “cloudycoo

We truely understand that it is stuffy. We’re trying to rectify this problem.
Thank you all for your feedback.

Hi, I went there just nice at 9.30am on the first day. Not so many people at that time. At 11.30 the hall became crowded with lots of people.
I am looking for Malay novel only. So I managed to buy 4 books from Alaf 21 and all are 50% discount, really cheap.
there’s a long queue at the payment counter but it won’t take you long to pay.
A waste of time for me and family. The place was too hot, and crowded. And after spending a long time searching for the books (not that easy to find certain tittle, a bit jumble everywhere), then there’s this check out madness. We ended up just left the book, and left without buying anything. To make thing worse, the parking attendant at the basement was a real jerk!!!
hi Disappointed,
hahahahha
What did the parking attendant at the basement did to you?
I forgot to mention, even I am happy that I manage to get my books, I have a bad time with the parking attendant too. It clearly stated there that the parking rate is RM2 per entry, but when i at the exit booth, the system said it was RM3. And the parking attendant want me to pay RM3. I shoouted at him, saying that “sini tulis RM2 per entry maa”…then he let me out….
It was supposed to be a warehouse sale but the books there were NOT cheap. Only selected ones. In fact, the last one in Section 13 in October 2008 was GREAT!
That sale was well-organised, well-stocked and the prices for novels, for eg. was only RM20 and below, compared to this Mayang one where novels were RM24 and above! I can get those prices from Popular with the member’s card, let alone during sale time.
We were on the way to Fatty Crab when we saw the flyer. I was tempted but we didnt go. Too many on ‘to-read list’ and got children tagging along. The dusty, humid experience from the last somewhere in Bangunan TH is still fresh in our memories. No more no more for us.
sigh, went there twice on sat and today too.
cannot find any novels by terry pratchett
the staff also have no idea, just asked me to search for it myself…
Dear all,
Thanks for the feedbacks. We will sit down and talk to the parking attendent to make sure things like this don’t happen again.
We have removed certain glass panels to allow better circulation of air. Reducing the humid air inside allowing more fresh air to flow through inside. Also we are installing extra fans by today.
We welcome your feedbacks good and bad. And we are continuously trying to improve.

Ben Leow

went there today with my 5 yer old son around 11am. so many choice for kids/toddlers. Dunno which one to choose. I bought a Cecelia Ahern 2 in 1 book for RM35. Saw the same book in Kino for RM49.90. Bought lotsa book for nieces and my son. CDs for kids was also on good bargain. The only thing that i disliked was it’s a bit dusty. The parking system was faulty this morning and i only have to pay for rm2 for the solid 2 hours when i was there. Other than that, i loike my purchases today!
will you by any chance have the old sweet valley senior year books (No.40-48). I’ve been searching for them for years. No bookstore seem to carry them any more. Guess coz it’s probably obsolete.
Do let me know. Thanks.
Dear all,
As promised, we installed another 10 fans today. circulation is much better now. Dust is coming from the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floor doing renovation works.
Had a talk with the building management on the parking issue, they promise to sort it out.
Nadine, will try to lookout for the books for you.

Ben Leow

I was there yesterday and certainly going on weekdays make a huge difference (for those who can). Lots of good deals on children’s books. I was happy with my purchases (over RM 100). Except for the books being dusty and some quite old (therefore markdowns up to 70%), selections were pretty good. I guess it really depends what you’re looking for.
One thing i must say is, thanks BEN LEOW for responding here and taking action asap. This is more than i can say for many other warehouse sales who don’t care about their customers’ shopping experience even though it is a ‘warehouse’ sale.
Yup. I will drop by. Thanks Ben for your prompt reply.
Hi all,
Replenished more children books and novels today. Will replenish more children books by tmrw for this weekend.
Please look for me if our part timers are “somewhat unhelpful
”
Thank you for all the feedback provided.

I went there today. A lot of children book and cook book. For me the cook book after discount ok la. Some very cheap some not really. I also bought a 1 Design book only rm5~!!
I want to say that the place is not a good place,
1) very very dusty, even the book cover full with dust~!! so the air there…
2) The book very messy and not well organize except children & cook book.
3) The book shelf very very dangerous, especial MPH allow the kids sit under the shelf there reading, because when I pull the book out the book shelf is shaking. So Ben, please ask your staff not allow the kids sit in front of the book shelf.
Above just mu opinion. Wish help to improve the warehouse sale in future.
Oki.
Thank you
I would recommend it for those who are looking for children books and novels :=)
Hi all,
Thank you for your feedback.
Will inform my staff on the shaky shelves. Will fix the shelves instead of not asking kids to sit below it
Apologise for the dust. Its coming from the renovation works upstairs.
Will get our vendors and suppliers to step up on the housekeeping of books. 1/3 of the area is being occupied by our vendors/suppliers.
We will strive to improve in future.

Ben Leow

most of the books were from last year’s MPH distributor sale. I remember the price tags were still there. But the books this time had been priced differently, almost 2x more expensive than last year’s sale. Just another gimmick.
