has anyone been to the mph book fair yet? was it worth it? Or should I just wait for the BBW books sales?
I say wait for the BBW sale.
Last year MPH warehouse
Cecilia Ahen book in MYR20
Not recommended. A friend of mine saw a childrens book priced for rm6.90 at the big Giant supermarket in Kelana Jaya. But at this MPH sale its 10 bucks! A lot of difference there. To verify this claim I went there earlier myself. And true enough, some of the books from previous MPH sale have increased. Example “The Quotable Atheist”. Used to be rm15… now rm20. Aiyo, is time that bad ah. I’m gonna save up my money for the Big Bad Wolf Sale.
Hi ! Krusty,
Appreciate you can provide the title of the children book that was higher at the Giant mart. We are working with a number of distributors and your info. will be useful to ensure that prices at our events are REALLY good value compare to normal retail prices at retail outlets.
I went there today with a friend. She bought a basket full of children books. I personally thought it was worth my money because I managed to grab a big book of bedtime stories/nursery rhymes for only RM9.95 after 50% discount. Good bargain if you want to buy books for your children at the 50% corner but choices are limited. There are RM2-RM10 loot but you have to dig deep
BEST: Asked my friend but she couldnt remember the title of the book except for the catchy cover. Its basically a toddler read a long book. Please do visit Giant mart and take note of the prices for their books. I’m sure MPH can cut down the prices to 80-90 percent instead of 50 percent. Times are hard now for everyone. Thanks for your concern BEST.
yes, some of the books are cheaper and some may find it worth buying, but comparing to previous sales, this time the so called discounted price for the books are frustrating.. paperback novels, cooking books and children books are either not much diff than actual price sold in mph bookstore itself or tad bit higher than in other bookshop.. and don’t even get me started on the price tag sticker – 3 same title book but each with different price – 1 is rm15, another is rm20 and another is rm7…. *sigh*
Hi! clownkiller. would really appreciate to have your info. which titles are selling not much diff than actual price sold in mph bookstore itself or tad bit higher than in other bookshop. Our team is very concern that we are selling higher than the bookshops! We share comments from customers evry morning before we start the fair and will go after the vendors. It is Rule no 1, our prices must always be lower than the regular prices in the bookshops! We are also customers and booklovers.
Have to leave for the fair, hope to see your info.
tempted to go.. till i saw it was in kelana jaya… can anyone comment how the traffic is after working hours?
Super hard to get parking. Only few are available.
Books are in a mess so if you have got a lot of time to browse then it’s OK
Price are moderate. The ones at big bad wolf or the warehouse in PJ is much better
I totally agree with clownkiller. Some of the books with the same title ( same edition mind you ) are price tagged differently. Now I understand, putting a price tag on thousands of books can be a be a complicated chore but there has to be a major revamp in the system or else someone would be buying higher price for the same book.
went for the last bookfair in April last year at this venue. Totally unorganized and the electricity went off for about half hour. Customers had to navigate their way through with handphone lights. But the one held in the old Lim Kok Wing buiding was better. And more accessible and ample parking space. For books, I went for the BBW, and some of the new titles were not available, but fiction books were as low as rm8 in BBW. So obviously a book lover like me will go for BBW.
They have improved. I went there again earlier and noticed a lot of new stock at the back. They’re good quality books too. Something else to be commended – during the heavy downpour earlier two MPH workers escorted me to my scooter with their umbrella. Thanks a lot guys! This is the kind of thing that makes me all warm and tingly inside
Hi ! Ping. As any booklover, I was also at BBW got some RM 8 for some fiction. The choice and titles , can I say are different from our fairs. Would love to get my hands on RM 8 for some of the titles at our fair, but not everything boleh. But this month will have to go on a diet, not for health but going to pokai, becos of the code 14 , refer to my comment to Krusty.
Old lim Kwok Wing better but DUSTY! We will stay away from dusty places from now on.
sorry.. may I know what is BBW?
Regina,
BBW – Big Bad Wolf.. this was a book sale back in May that had everyone raving on the prices… RM8 on most fictions novels, among others…
This sale coming back this 26th November 2009 at Amcorp Mall.
in response to Ely – traffic is heavy after working hours due to the traffic light and narrow lane and it gets really bad it it was raining.. if u’d really like to go after all the other comments about the price and the unorganize books, i’d recommend going there on weekend – free parking and if the parking space is full, u can always park at the restaurant across the dewan called Showru…
p/s: if u come on sun, when ur’e bout to enter the parking, and if there’s someone ask u to pay the parking, pls do ask why u need to pay such thing as the dewan belongs to MBPJ and by right, it should be free parking… just a thought…
Hi! Jlab, We also need to pay parking to MBPJ, every day there. When it is raining, we will have a team helping to bring you to the car.
just went from this sale.
quite ok la..most of them masih baru, even value buy from rm8 onwards. there is alot of nice book/novel rm10 only.
I bought sophie kinsella with 30%, got nice one for only rm16 after disc. however other still expensive, rm35 (b4 disc).
there is also toys for kids from rm5 to rm50. children book also in a good quality.
tak ramai org sgt, but dont know why parking crowded. maybe cos around there ada offices.
Went there twice d….a small-scale sale…the 50% discount n rm2-rm10 corner not bad oh….MANY books…..but need to roam all of it to get what i want lo…den all the books in the boxes are so new n cheap!! y ah? some even stil wrapped in plastic.. r those for clearance? well…bought 2 boxes already…haiz….u guys dun put out new books everyday lah…abo i will pokai..haha
omg i saw 1 lady stucking all the children books from the 50disc n rm2-10 into basketS just now….den all the workers have to help her carry boxeS of books n stuffs into her car…swt.
i like the magazines…hehe…^^
Went today and was a bit disappointed. Wanted to get some of the new children’s books. Similar stock was sold at the recent MPH warehouse sale in Dataran Hamodal at a discount of 30%. In this sale these books went for 20% only. If you are a Kidz Club and MPH member who has spend more then RM1000 the discount and rebate together are also about 20%. Thus no real advantage! Luckily I had the newspaper advert which offered a rebate of RM5 for RM150 spent. That was at least an added 3%! The staff as usual were friendly and helpful. Got an unpacked baby cloth book for RM2.00 only. And as usual the carry to the car service was excellent – even with the heavy rain!
Don’t bother coming here. Save up for BBW sale, people!
To BEST,
Hi, Is MPH planning to do a book fair / warehouse sale in Penang ? Penang seems to be missing out on Book Sales.
