Home appliance manufacturer Electrolux plans to invest RM2.5 million to set up new concept stores around the country next year.

Electrolux home appliances general manager, Koh Soh Hoie, said the group planned to build 10 new concept stores, which would be complete one-stop centres for all Electrolux products, in 2010.

“Each store will cost around RM250,000 to set up as well to provide the finishing touches. When we open stores in other states, it will cost us more than having a store here,” he said.

Koh said the group has an existing store in Penang but it did not feature the new concept style.

He was speaking to reporters after the launch of the group’s first concept store at Solaris Dutamas in Hartamas here today. The event was also part of the group’s 90th year celebration.

Also present was the president of Electrolux Major Appliances for East Asia, Dr Suresh Balan.

Asked about the locations for the new concept stores, Koh said these had not been finalised as the group needed to be careful in choosing the sites based on consumer demand.

“I cannot confirm the places but I am very sure there will be one in Johor Baharu, Penang and Melaka,” he said.

Suresh said the group planned to open the second concept store in the Klang Valley by early next year.

He said the site was currently under renovation and upon completion of the work, an announcement would be made.

According to Suresh, the market in Malaysia has been growing well and Electrolux is not badly affected by the current economic downturn.

“Since we started to do business here in 1973, Malaysia has been a great market as we continue to grow and sustain the number one spot for kitchen appliances,” he said.
