One of the city’s earliest landmarks, Jaya Supermarket, collapsed while demolition work was going on, killing two Indonesian workers.

Two bodies were recovered at 6.44pm and 10.25pm and another worker was feared dead.

The retail industry is expected to grow bleaker in the second quarter but this will likely change in the third quarter when sales improve.

Retail Group Malaysia managing director Tan Hai Hsin expects the retail market to move into the “negative zone” in the second quarter.

“It will be worse than the first quarter of this year, which registered a marginal increment,” Tan told StarBiz.

Tens of thousands of Chinese fans are expected to turn out to welcome Barbara Millicent Roberts, or “Ba Bi Wa Wa” as she is known in the country.

After a number of delays, Barbie’s new 37,000 sq ft home will open just two days before her 50th birthday on March 9.

We have seen our share of eBoutiques,  Online Blog Shops and even Online Blog Resellers on shoppingNsales.com; often we have many trying to put up their “offers & sales” as a pseudo comment on our website, for most-parts, its often filtered as a spam, and most of you don’t see it, but on ocassions they slip through.

  Marks & Spencer Group on Wednesday became the latest British retailer to announce job cuts and store closures as the sector grappled with the results of the country’s worst economic downturn in more than 17 years. The iconic British retailer, which sells clothes, food and furniture, reported a smaller drop in third-quarter sales figures than analysts had expected but said that it planned to close 27 stores and cut 1,230 jobs to prepare for what it predicted would be at least another year of economic woes. Internet searches for “Wii” outpaced searches for “God” by 76% this year.

Unsurprisingly, the Wii is also the hottest product on the market this season. It ranks first among product searches on the Internet using Google’s search engine during the lead-up to the 2008 holidays. Second on the list is the Wii’s most-sought-after game, “Wii Fit,” followed by Apple’s iPod Touch. The Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS round out the top five.

With six new projects coming onstream in the Klang Valley next year, the retail property market is expected to see a consolidation in occupancy and rental rates in the next few months.

Retail property consultants said while popular malls in good locations including Suria KLCC, Mid Valley Megamall, Sunway Pyramid and 1 Utama would continue to record full occupancy and business growth, those located in less sought-after areas would face a slowdown.
