I agree that Damansara Specialist Hospital (DSH) is expensive. Am going to deliver my 1st baby there in 19 days time. The hospital & services by the nurses are good, but the charges are a bit high. I know because throughout my pregnancy, I was admitted 4 times to the hospital. But this is one of the hospitals which are encouraging EBF.

I heard that PUSRAWI charges are OK and services are not bad. If I am not mistaken, there is one in Kota Damansara. I only found out about it recently. Maybe I would try it there for my 2nd one.

Govt hospitals??? Only if u dont hv any other options! Its damn cheap but the downside are: 1) Usu. no single room ward 2) Your hb cant be with u in the labour room 3)You’ll be forced to breastfeed with or without help..you’ll struggle if its your 1st time 4)Service is inferior 5) No post-natal check up appointment

I delivered my girl in Assunta about 3 years back and the total I spent was about RM1900+ for normal delivery. The price was inclusive of the nursery services. In my opinion, the price is much cheaper than most private hospitals and service from nurses where very good.

on top of that, I stayed in a single room

yeah DSH very expensive….my friend who had a C-section cos of some complications….her bill was RM12,000!!! My goodness….with that amount in some other hospitals U can deliver 11 or 12 babies la! SJMC is still good la in my opinion.

Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaysia.(PPUM)

Normal delivery, gave birth at 11 p.m, the next day, 3.00 pm i was discharged. Only RM550. The service also good but you must beware, the are so many practicals students (including my secondary school junior)that time. If you don’t want them, say it..
But my experience, they are not that bad, but their handling style is not as smooth as the Dr. (i.e-their ’sewing’)

DSH is expensive as i had my 1st baby there, it cost around rm4k+ as compared to APSH which cost me less than 3k, both normal delivery. but the service at DSH is better where the nurses come to check every now and then after delivery. the downside was i had a very severe pain after delivery (like another contraction, nurses came to take out or rather korek for blood clots. can u imagine u just had episiotomy/stiches then the nurse put her fingers inside u to take out the blood clots..don’t know why i had that pain after birth bcos it’s my 1st experience, or it’s the doctor negligent not to make sure there were no blood clots

pantai is quite expensive. i’m going to deliver there soon. i’ve check the price, for normal delivery it takes about 3k. but the expensive ones is c-section. minimum 6k with no complication and guess wat, is 4 bedded.

alamak.. im planning to deliver our no 7 at DSH this coming july. now i have my doubts.. hmmm.. altho our past 6kids delivered normally with no complications, sometimes u know, private hospital will purposely do a c-section cause the cost is higher!

and i would like to correct most people’s perception on govt hospitals. i too, long time ago was afraid to deliver at gov hospitals. no1,2&3 were delivered at private hospitals – 2 in kl, 1 in johor. when i was preggy with no4, my hubby was then working with selayang hospital in their IT dept. so naturally, the easiest would be to deliver there. that was year 2004. and boy was i in for a big surprise!

the service was excellent! i didnt take the 4 bedded room cause i prefer to be around people, so i took the normal ward. delivery was smooth, hubby’s are encouraged to see the whole process. the doctors & nurses were nice. food was ok. i really have nothing to complaint about. and guess what, it only cost a total of rm60 (rm20 for delivery, rm10×2 for warded for 2 days and rm20 for equipments etc (usually if no complications, u only hv to stay for a night, but my baby had blood type O-ve, so need to monitor in case of jaundice).

same goes for no 5 & 6. both at selayang hospital with no issues. i heard some people complaint bout the service, so i guess im just lucky? in my opinion, if one are nice, not demanding/fussy & being co-operative, one will get the same treatment too! coz i saw the same nurse & doc who were being nice to me, were quite harsh on some other patient, bcoz they were difficult & non co-operative (eg. refused to let the doc check the vagina after delivery, calling the nurses every now and then saying that they are going to deliver soon, where as they are not, those kind of things etc).

to me, i guess, partially it depends on fate/ luck? coz i’ve heard friends with bad experience at private hospitals too.

WOW Mum of 7! How do U manage? So cheap the government hospitals. Can save alot of money leh. :)

mommie.. im working btw, with an audit firm. contraceptive doesnt work on me. i’ve tried depoprovera, marvelon, iucd, yasmin- all to no avail. and my gynae didnot allow me to tie-up the tube coz i’m still young & too fertile, so its quite dangerous- chances of conceiving in the fallopian tube is high. so this time around, going to try mirina. hope it works :) we wanted 7 anyways, but didnt plan the gap to be this close. but so far so good.

to me, no matter anywhere you give birth, the pain is still the same (unless u take epidural la – i didnt take any,not even once btw). and im the type who just do it all out to get it over done with & try to tahan the pain- it really depends on your breathing & your mind.

but fyi, a scary incident happened to my neigbour who delivered in sg buloh hospital eraly this year. she was supposed to undergo a c sec. during the 1st jap of anesthetic, she didnt feel numb, then she was given another, still not numb, then another one. so the doc figured that 3 should be enuf, and went and “cut” her la. she yelled in pain cause she still not numb yet! so they gave her the gas. scary isnt it?! huhuhu..

anyways, after hearing the feedbacks on DSH, im thinking of switching to SJMC. Does anyone has Dr Delaila’s clinic no/ address? would appreciate it very much! thx!

l3ni:

well.. i tink all those cost abt $3K is not v.expensive if for a KL private hospital as I delivered my baby in Seremban Specialist hospital and it cost me (normal with epidural) about $3K plus and my epidural came off cos i was allergic to the chemical in it and was scratching a lot and the anesthetian doctor refused to put it back (it was 4am and he needs to drive to hospital) and was told that re-insertion of epidural will lead to high risk of spinal bone infection, found out from 2 other specialist that it’s nonsense… some doctor with high morale hey… his name is abdul something.. beware.. !!

Child no.1 UMSC 5 days around RM5k (vacuum + epidural + some complication thereafter + baby phototherapy due to jaundice)

Child no.1 UMSC 3 days around RM3k (normal with pethadine jab)

No complaints. Gynae’s good (The same gynae that does your ante-natal checks…). Stitches nicely (been told several times by different nurses who did post natal checks), midwives and nurses checks regularly, one room per patient, husband can stay in with wife at all times, help and assistance during labour given (when to push etc)

Nursery and paeditrician’s care very good, nurses will check upon you if they hear your newborn crying non-stop and offer to take care for you and let you rest / sleep

Food – ok lah.

Drawbacks – not much promotion on exclusive breastfeeding. mother must request and insist not too feed newborn with formula …but if you wish to bf, they’ll teach you.

If you are looking for the best doctors and specialists in the Klang Valley, they are at UMMC. My ob/gyn who is in (a popular) private practice said even she would go there if she was having twins/special case because they have the best doctors there and cases from private hosp often get referred there. If your pregnancy is complicated or the docs at your private hosps cannot handle the complications that arise during labour, they will send you to UMMC. Even UMSC patients are sent to UMMC if there are complications. The downside are the trainees, but they are strictly not allowed to handle serious procedures including c-sections, and specialists are present at all times for all deliveries including normal deliveries. But you have the options to refuse them, though not many people know that.

They currently don’t allow hubbies in the delivery room to protect privacy of other women delivering at the same time. We can expect this if we only pay around RM500 for delivery. However, they are now completing a new maternity wing where it’s more spacious and husbands will be allowed in. GH allows husbands in though.

Mom of 3, I would like to correct your opinion of post-natal checkups. I don’t know abt other govt hosp, but UMMC has one of the most thorough post-natal checkups. My sister delivered twice there but with her first baby she went Sunway for post natal checkup. In UMMC they checked her child from head to toe and arranged for follow-ups as well.

Normal checkups at UMMC is RM6, RM20 for ultrasound and for delivery starts from RM500. My friend who delivered twins there via ceasarean (she was referred to UMMC from KJMC) was billed RM1,100. Stayed 3 days. She got her own room (twins considered special case) and the nurse took care of her twins in turn throughout the night. I imagine her bill would be over RM10k at private practice, but if you got the money, nothing wrong for wanting special treatment.

Pusat Rawatan Az-Zahrah Bangi. The doctor was fantastic. initially (when i was 2 months pregnant, i went to 2 other hospitals coz i had some complications) but then i went to Az-Zahrah Bangi for a 3rd opinion. The doctor was fantastic so i continued there until delivery. Great doctor, great nurses, great food. cost me only Rm1500 (biggest room). I wish i could get pregnant again so i can visit the same doctor again.

SMC Shah Alam not bad, normal 1 day package only cost u abt 2k,service very good, doc siti is da best. Just wanna advised you guyz do not go to a small private maternity clinic or hosp for your 1st pregnancy. My friend died after she gave birth at the small maternity hosp due to she got bleeding and the hosp did not have enough equipment and staff to handle her and she was sent to the govt hosp nearby but she died on the way to the hosp.So please ensure that you don’t go to the small private hospital (meaning the shoplot hospital)for your first preggy coz we might have a lot or nor complication during give birth. If for normal check-up ok la..but if for delivery and the budget pun just ok..better go to govt hosp..govt hosp nowdays pun not bad what..

UMSC drs are actually UMMC specialists/consultants doing part time after office hours. U’ll be warded in UMMC though – not sure if the new UMSC building is ready (btw, hv u seen UMMC’s maternity ward?!) The consulation cost is slightly lower than upmarket pvt hospitals.

Hello people.

I left my comments here on May 20th at 11.43am, told u guys that I am expecting my 1st baby in 19 days time at DSH.
Well guess wht? I gave birth on May 20th itself at 10.15pm! I went for my weekly chk-up in the afternoon. My doc found out tht I hv pre-eclampsia. A combination of both high blood pressure & high protein in urine.
To cut the story short, I had to undergo an emergency C-sect. I was warded in a double bedded room. And my stay was for 3D/2N. Total bill was 8k++.
Service was excellent. OT went well. Had a bikini line cut and the stitches were done very well & fine. But the doc put me on a liquid diet, the soup were nice. Food wise no complains frm my experience being warded at DSH 4 times during pregnancy.
They encourage rooming-in of mother & baby, and the nurses will come to chk & guide on breastfeeding.
Charges for post-natal chk up also varies. For the first 5 months I was with a different gynae. Then mid-way I changed to a different gynae – her charges are cheaper compare to the 1st gynae.
Personally I still think DSH is pricey.

Hi again.

I have to say that UMSC patients are warded in UMSC. The building is called ‘Menara Timur’. For deliveries, patients will be admitted to the Lily Wad in a one patient per room. The room is quite large and patients will give birth at that room itself, without being transferred to a dedicated ‘Labour Room’. I find this very comforting. There is also a sofa which can be converted into a bed. Anyway, once you have delivered, they might transfer you to a smaller room is someone else need to use the big room.

UMMC’s ‘Wad Bersalin’ is in another building.

For clinical ante and post natal checks, it is in a different building entirely, located next to the UM’s arch gate. They used to have it at the same place as UMMC. Now, with their new ‘clinic’, its much better, more parking spaces (RM3 per entry), more comfortable.

It’s a good place if one wishes to have a private hospital kind of treatment but with a teaching hospital’s facilities.

Gave birth in UMSC years 2006, 2007 and insya’allah 2008.

niasulaiman,

plz shed some light here..umsc is a considered govt or private hosp?how do we approach them for check ups and perhaps, delivery?any restrictions as to what area u come from, like some govt hosp ke?

saya tgh survey hosp2 kat kl, esp govt hosp should i be delivered in kl..coming Nov.

tqvm for ur advice.

niasulaiman:

Salam,

Nurul, I am no expert on UMSC, just a patient who has been delivering her babies twice and insya’allah for the third time there…(so currently I’ve been going there for my periodic ante-natal checks)

Anyway, what I know, UMSC stands for University Malaya Specialist Hospital. Thus, only specialists will attend to the patients. UMMC stands for University Malaya Medical Centre.

UMSC is considered as a private hospital. For first timers, we need to register ourselves. My experience was that it was much easier to go to UMSC for the first time for registeration etc.

After we are registered, we will have the necessary check-ups and delivery with our preferred specialist.

I do not have the answer on the restrictions.

Wishing you the best of luck with your hospital search.

My 1st baby was delivered at SMC, Shah Alam with Dr. Siti. Had emergency ceaserean, cost about RM4.5K. The service was very good. My 2nd baby was delivered at SJMC, Subang Jaya with different Dr. Siti. Normal delivery, took petidin (a pain killer), afraid to take epidural cause quite expensive. It cost me around RM2.5K. Dr. Siti is a good doctor but I prefer service from SMC than SJMC. Agree with Mystical, Dr. Siti, SJMC check up usually very long Q but worth waiting, i guess.

June 13th, 2008 | 4:10 pm

I delivered my first baby at Taman Desa Medical Centre with my Gynae Dr. Loo last year. She is a very patient doctor. I have a normal delivery with induce and vacumm. I was not able to open up to 10cm although the estimated time after induce was over. I only open up to 8-9cm. Therefore, Dr. Loo has to cut me and use vacumm to help me. The sewing was nice and I think because of big cut, it takes about 15 minutes. Can’t recall, I remember vividly I keep on chit chat with her when she do sewing. She told me she slightly want to put me to c-sec because I try for long time and not yet success. Most of the midwife and nurses in the labour room not expected I can make it (normal delivery). But lastly, I make, she was surprise on that. Overall, I happy with the service there. I insist breastfeed my baby. The nurses bring my baby to me in the mid night for breastfeeding. After that they take care for me in the nursery. My bill for 3 days 2 nights is RM3400. Normal check up for Dr. Loo start from RM60. Anyway, she always in a long Q everyday.

Hi, I delivered my son in May 2007 at UMSC and have nothing but praise for the medical staff there.

Like mum_of_3, I was put in a single room and found the fact that I would be delivering there (instead of being transferred somewhere else) very comforting. My husband was allowed to be present the whole time, in fact, at one point, my in-laws came in as well (a fact I was not too happy about actually! :-) )

My gynae, Dr Paul Tay, was very good, and kept me calm throughout. I received stitches but they were done up nicely. The nurses who attended to me were supportive and cheerful, something you really appreciate when in labour. After giving birth, I was given assistance with breastfeeding (since this was my first child). My baby was kept in the nursery a lot to give me time to rest, but whenever I was awake, they would wheel my baby in to my room so I could spend time with him.

One thing I notice about UMSC medical staff is that they try to keep the labour as natural as possible i.e. they discourage the use of epidurals, encourage vaginal delivery. I believe that their philosophy is the less unnecessary medical intervention, the better. You can still opt for epidurals etc, just that it’s not shoved in your face as an option ever so often.

Anyway, I ended up staying in UMSC for 5 days as my son had bad jaundice. Total bill for my delivery and hospital stay including UV photolight therapy for my son and paed charges came up to RM3500. I thought it was reasonable seeing as I was attended to with such care.

I’m now pregnant again with my second baby, and wish I could go to UMSC. Alas, I’ve moved house now and trying to get something closer to home.

Hi Moms,

I had my baby at KJMC end of last year. I was a week overdue, and had induced labour. Alas, there were complications and I had to go for emergency c-sect.

My gynae, Dr Fatima was excellent. She’s rather popular there so there’s usually a long Q to see her for chkups. During labour she was calming and makes decisions quickly (no delays)–something you’ll appreciate when you’re having intense contractions.. hehe. Her stitches are good, and it healed preddy fast. And throughout the c-sect she chatted with me so I don’t feel too overwhelmed. Big lights in ur eyes tend to do that. :)

That said, the post-labour care could’ve been better. Though the nurses were nice, the midwives are a tad too abrupt and “garang” for me. Dunno, maybe i was hoping for a lil bit of understanding since it was my 1st time in labour and didn’t know squat abt anything! After 2 days in the hosp, they forgot to give me meds and they really don’t promote early breastfeeding at all. I had to request for my baby everytime.

The total amt we paid was about RM6k. That includes the induce, the emergency c-sect, the nursery, the 3D 2N stay in the premium room (not too sure of the name, but its bigger and better than a single room) coz there were no single rooms left and my hubby wanted to stay in the hosp with me, AND the lousy food. Superdry piece of plywood meat with black sauce is called grilled beef. Seriously.

Anywayz, i would highly recommend Dr Fatima, and if you’re not very fussy about the post-labour care, then KJMC is perfect for you. Pls note that they are doing some renovations right now so it’ll prolly affect the room quality. To mom-to-bes… Good luck in hospital hunting!

I delivered my first child in UMSC. I was introduced by my fren commenting on the excellent services when she had her delivery.

I started visiting UMSC since i was 3 months pregnant. My monthly consultation bill was RM120. Of course there will be scanning, urine test and etc. The process of waiting for your turn was quite long as the chairs are not at comfort and it the air cond was too cold. Description counter not organise, they made mistake distrubuting medicines. They gave me steroids instead of vitamin pills. Thats scary! Luckily I was aware of it.

My gynae was Prof Eugene Leong. He was good. He took good care of me. I had C-section coz i didn’t dilate and my water bag broke. Baby was stressed so we had emergency op.

I was on full anasthetic so no pain at all. I had some fibroid and the doc helped me to remove.

I was warded in Lily ward, one bed room. My hubby stayed with me. Food was not fantastic but the nurses were ok. They did check up on and off. Sad to say they didn’t encourage neither thought me to breast-feed. They should stress on this.

My son had jaundice so he had to stay over and I was discharged. Quite sad. My bill came up to 7600 and my son’s bill for the UV light and etc was 1300. Total was RM8600

1st time mom:

I delivered last Dec at Pantai Bangsar. Price is ok, but had a very bad experience there.

(1) I vomited on the floor and chair during my labour and when the cleaner came in to clean, she use the mop to clean the floor and the chair too. BAD HYGIENE….
(2) I stayed in a single room and needed help, pressed the call button and the nurse only appear after more than 20 minutes later. BAD SERVICE…
(3) One of the nurse thought me how to use the medicine (look like dettol, not sure what is it called) to wash my stitches wound. She actually advice me to soak in the medicine with water once a day. Did that at home and my stitch wound worsen, causing me to cant walk and sit properly. Later only found out that i shouldn’t use it to soak…. BAD STAFF…

My doctor is good, but definitely not going back to Pantai Bangsar. My sister also delivered at Pantai Bangsar 3 months before me but she does not encounter any of the above. Maybe its my luck…. :(

i had my 2nd and 3rd son at Gombak Medical Centre, once called al-ilaaj. They let your hubby in for the delivery if you want to and if you came in too early but your baby isn’t going to come out soon, they’ll discharge you with no fees.
For my 3rd chld, I came in in the afternoon but only delivered my son early morning the next day. I stayed for another day and was disharged with fees of staying 2 days one night at rm1k. The room I had was a 2 patients room with attached bathroom.
GMC delivery rooms are only run by muslim women but other race are welcomed there

I have the unfortunate luck to deliver in a gov hosp 3rd class. It was my 1st n I didnt know there are diff class in gov hosp. I came in thru ER at 4 am but only sakit in the evening that day.
The nurse come to round only twice a day and one patient, I think underage moans all day but no one bothered to look at her. Poor thing, the nurse only come to scold her.
When my labour become intense, I had to walk all the way to the nurse room which was about 50m (there was no bell to ring) to tell them I’m ready.
Then after delivery, they whisked away the baby to baby’s room which is few blocks way. Never saw the baby after 24hours which by then refuse breast milk.
After labour, the post exam of the vagina is like walking thru lines of butchered animal; you need to walk yourself to the doc room, lie on the bed, one quick peek, there you done…. quick but very rough, very painful…. and they left you there bleeding without knowing anything they’ve done or what to do next.

I vow never to come back to gov hosp for delivery…. ever

I gave birth at DSH just 6 months ago. 3D2N, induced, epidural & vacuum delivery – final bill RM3.8k. I must say I am very satisfied with their service & most importantly I get to breastfeed my baby during 1st hour! DSH really is breastfeeding friendly hospital. My obgyn is great too – Dr Neoh. My monthly consultation fee is less then RM100 (admin fee which is compulsory each visit – RM5 + doc’s consultation + ultrasound + multivitamins + iron supplement). Nurses & midwives are ok too. After comparing my final bill with a few friends, I found mine reasonable.

shiela….aiyo…what an experience…which hospital was that? My goodness…..how can U walk after delivery? Thank God u survived.

July 3rd, 2008 | 7:03 pm
shiela:

mommie…. i give you a hint- a gov hosp in jb…. yeah, I’m glad I survived that too and have 2 more kids….. maybe that was the 3rd class treatment for poor people. I heard in 1st class they treat the patients differently.

if u r around cheras, u can try to see Dr. Edmund Lai in Pantai Medical Centre cheras. he got his own clinic in tmn pertama, same row with kfc. cheras specialist maternity centre. if u cannot come to the hospital during the day, can go to the clinic during nite. but i suggest you to go there on other days than monday because if not u haf to wait for 1-2 hours. price r around rm60-80. can do lah. klinik bersalin bdr tun razak also cheap. around rm50 to see doctor n scan etc.

i had mine 1st child delivered at sunway by Dr Wong Yat Mei in 2004. i had c-section, GA, 4 bedded for 3D2Ns with a total bill of RM5K. i’m currently 5 months pregnant & plan to go back to sunway since i was quite a satisfied patient from my last visit. since the gap is almost 4 yrs now, does anybody know if the services had improve/worsen? otherwise, i might consider going to DSH..

Jess:

Now I know why one cousin of mine so proud to mention she delivered in Sunway Med, cos it’s 1 of the top 5 expensive! But what she’s proud about I dunno, considering she took epidural and C-sect.

Damansara is memang expensive, not just for obstetrics. Don’t think even good service can justify over charging.

I never fancied Assunta considering the building looks so old fashioned but the charges so high, though this hospital recently got expansion. Wouldn’t go to a hospital that is undergoing major construction works though if it was me.

Had a friend admitted to Selayang (govt)hospital for head stitches and was immediately discharged after stitching. He felt pain then on his own went to Damansara Specialist and found out some area not stitched. He stayed one night good service but was charged several thousands for such a small job.

Jess:

Dr. Tang is popular(Taman Desa Med Cent) but the queue so long, you may have to wait for 2 hours.

For me, paying for private service I don’t see why I should have to wait like that when there is another doc available (even if he is not as popular).

Sometimes I wonder why some more popular, usually it is females (there’s Dr. Siti from SJMC). Is it cos of the more assuring way they communicate during consultation?

I have consulted 2 docs before, both guys and I admit their style of communicating less assuring in comparison to lady gynae(I consulted with 1 lady before). But I delivered with the same male doc and no problem at all.(My stitches healed about completely in 1 week). I think what matters is the skill.

August 6th, 2008 | 5:44 pm
Jess:

I delivered in Dr Chan klinik Wanita in 2006 at Mentakab, Pahang.
1. Injection to lessen pain(but this doc don do epidural)
2. Got induce, I think (I delivered in 3 hours’ time)

Good treatment and nurses. I didn’t have to do anything myself like washing wound done by nurse. Other moms in the same room, separated by curtains. Hubby went into labour room also.

No vacuum. Baby got first injections of course. Total RM1000 nett. Now I heard increase to RM1500.

August 6th, 2008 | 5:52 pm
Jess:

All the short forms, at least put in once the name of hospital in the posting la. Like KJMC. Why not say Kelana Jaya at least.

August 6th, 2008 | 5:54 pm
Jess:

Anyone heard of Dr Ruby from Jalan Ipoh? One friend’s wife delivered there at RM1500 normal but only nurses no doc to deliver. Got such thing ah?

August 6th, 2008 | 5:56 pm
Jess:

I can’t help seeing a trend of C-sects in private hospitals so I think some private docs are not ethical enough. I believe if you ask them they will say risk factor? (How justified?)

August 6th, 2008 | 5:59 pm
Jess:

Professors seem to appear in government hospitals. Is it better if the gynae is a prof?

August 6th, 2008 | 7:00 pm
Jess:

UMMC sounds good and cheap, must consider. Sounds highly recomended to me

August 6th, 2008 | 7:01 pm
Jess:

But are the babies delivered by docs in UMMC and are docs the ones who do the stitching up? (I heard poor stitching delays the healing of the wound).

August 7th, 2008 | 3:08 pm
Needa:

I delivered my first baby at UMMC. My doc was Dr. Aizura – very nice, she even drove to the hospital to deliver my baby although she was on leave!

UMMC was okay, but it was my first time delivering a baby and I felt very stressful because after delivery, nobody -not even my mother was allowed to accompany my at the maternity ward. I was in labour pain for 36 hours so can you imagine how tired I was after the delivery, I couldn’t even reach for my inhaler and glasses on the nearby table, and the nurses took some time to get to me after I’ve pressed the button. They encourage breastfeeding and ‘independence’, cannot ‘manja-manja’. But I wont encourage UMMC if you’re delivering you first child because of their post-natal care effect on the mother(babies are not effected).

Of course there are some medical students around, but you can request not to have them around if you don’t want to. After my delivery, there was one male student at the labour room and the nurse passed to me my baby for breastfeeding. Since it was my first child I have no idea how to breastfeed, naturally. So I asked the student how to breastfeed since my baby is not sucking. He went blushing red! Hahahah hah ambik ko nak sangat tengok.

My second child was delivered at Assunta Hospital. I wanted to deliver my baby at UMSC, but since my gynea Dr. Paul Tay moved to Assunta I just followed him there because I like him very much. He’s very gentle and professional. At first I had some doubt because Assunta is such an old hospital, but inside the facilities are not bad. The nurses were great and the food was so yummy. My bill was around RM1.3K if I’m not mistaken, it was not more than RM2K. I wouldn’t hesitate to deliver at Assunta again.

August 7th, 2008 | 10:52 pm
Needa:

By the way, has anybody delivered her baby at PRINCE COURT HOSPITAL?

I heard the hospital is like a hotel; they even have a bell boy and they provide robes, slippers etc. I wonder how much it would cost…my favourite doctor might be going there soon.

August 7th, 2008 | 10:56 pm
Jess:

Needa, you delivered your bb at Assunta for around RM1.3K or even under RM2K? Are you sure? If so, was it because you took the package?

If you qualified for the package that means all natural la? Like no induction, water bag broke by itself, etc. (Practically means they don have to do anything) (I wonder how many qualify for package)

August 8th, 2008 | 2:57 pm

i am really happy found this blog. how come i don’t know this blog earlier. :droolll:

i delivered my 1st bb at Govt. Hospital, bcoz it is just few steps away from my mom’s house. My experience? dunno whether it was bad or not. the food was okay, my hubby can be in the deliver room..

but what i remember most was, when my labor become intense, i rang a bell for the nurse to check, but she said “biasa la tu, anak first”. Then i tak tahan, rang a bell again after 5 minutes later, then i asked them to check my vagina, it already opened 8cm! Kelam kabut, the nurses pushed me together with my bed.

at the delivery room (1am), 5 or 6 nurses dunno come from nowhere come to watch me, macam tgk wayang. i was been scolded by the paed and the nurses because dunno how to push.(1st baby, no experience, of course la)..thank god my hubby was there. “i just about want to punch the nurses’ faces” that was what my hubby said to me. hehe.

After delivery, i got terrible bleeding. 1st in the morning, i have to sent my baby on my own to the bathroom about 100 meter away from my bed. i was bleeding all the way to the bathroom, there were plenty of my blood drops all along the way to the bathroom and nobody care. the bed is too high, have to panjat and lompat for turun. Every time i wanted to go off the bed, tumpah darah. and again, no body care, even told the nurse, they didnt come to see me. only the cleaner asked about my condition when she wanted to clean my blood. is it normal?? i dun think so..

thank god, nothing bad happen to me and the baby. but what the best thing is, my baby was always with me all the time. They really encourage to bf. and no doubt, it is really great experience..

coz, i heard, my frenz was delivered her bb in a private hspl. after deliver, they just give the bb formular milk without asking her, she want to bf or not… it such a waste..

Needa:

Hi Jess
I’m not aware of any ‘package’ deal at Assunta because I didn’t take any. I went there purely because I followed my doctor. Yes Jess it was BELOW RM2K. I got a jab to reduce pain (not sure what it’s called, but it’s not epidural), they also gave me gas and the doctor had to break my waterbag. I stayed at the hospital for one and a half day. Felt soo pampered compared to delivering my first baby at a government hospital…macam nak meroyan aje rasa beranak kat UH…

Needa:

Lissa,
That’s why la I told my hubby – selagi takde duit nak bersalin kat private, selagi I tak nak get pregnant ;-) . The minute we found that we were pregnant, we set aside some money every month so that I can deliver in private hosp. I have no regret. Baby blues also not so much because I didn’t ’suffer’ much hehehe

HaZe:

Jess: Aiyark.. jgnla mare… most moms here figure that readers will know what abbreviation means which hospital. Yes, KJMC means Kelana Jaya Medical Centre. If you cant figure out which hospital it is, try searcing in google. Im preddy sure u can find it easy peasy.

And about the delivery “packages”… Dont be too easy to believe these so-called package deals. My friend who delivered in Pantai Hospital in Cheras wanted to take one of the packages, but when she spoke to her gynae about it, the doc actually told her its cheaper to not take the package.. and after calculating the bill, it turns out the doc was right. Besides, every delivery is different, and as much as we want to stay true to the “package” or the ideal delivery we want, we might not get it. My advice is to not have high expectations on which mode of delivery u want, purely to avoid too much disappointment when u cant get what u want in the end. U should just hope for the best, a smooth delivery and a healthy baby.

Lissa: Hehe. So nice ur hubby being so protective. Mmg some nurses just lack the bedside manners that patients rightfully deserve. My sister in-law’s nurses was chit chatting away with her friends while stitching her up.. and even rested her arm on her already tired leg!! Imagine the nerve of that nurse.. huhu.

Needa, very hard to believe u. When did u deliver n which doc?

If can deliver under RM2k at Assunta without having to qualify for any package, I no need to consider oredi. I go strait there.

Needa, gimme some details. If really can, my hubby must agree dat I am a very resourceful wife (haha!).

Jess, I delivered 5 months ago under Dr.Paul Tay (very handsome doc ;-) , but I’m not sure whether he’s still there or not because I think he might move to Prince Court. Sana definitely won’t get Assunta price la…
I stayed at Fatimah room if I’m not mistaken because their single rooms near the nursery are full. You can try asking the hospital about the normal rate. Good luck!

Hi happymoonbeam, Can I enquire whether Dr. Tay gave you an episiotomy, or was it a natural tear? Did you receive an epidural as well? I’ll be opting for a natural delivery and would like some feedback on his style. Thanks in advance!

Waa..just discovered this website and i really love this topic..I’ve delivered my 1st baby in gov hospt. In fact it’s a semi gov hospt- in Putrajaya.I had my labor pain for 36hours- just like Needa. I kind of regret going there coz of the treatment i got.. They should have offered me the epidural..but gov hospt won’t give u any..(they gave pethadine and ethonox which make me nausea) and thus I am still having the labor pain phobia..
After giving birth at 5.30pm (induced and vacuum), they took almost 20 minutes to stitch me up, and my baby was not really clean..theres a lot of dried blood on his hair. Later that night, around 11pm my baby passed his first stool…and cried. I asked for a help as I am extremely tired..36hours is really long for labor pain..and guess what..the nurse scold me for being sooooo spoiled..she asked me to do it all by myself.
Only the next day they teach me how to breastfeed my son..(very rude as if to say why am I so stupid..don’t know how to breastfeed). What do you expect? Its my first baby!!..Swear to god I am only going to private after this. What I can conclude here..Theres a lot of negative comment whenever it comes to Government Hospital. The positive one are there but very rare..

September 19th, 2008 | 2:24 pm
Eza:

Btw..it cost me rm800 (2 bedded room+induce+pethadine+ethonox+vacuum)
Then..I heard about Prince Court as well..it is damn expensive..if u r rich enuf..then go.My friend under Petronas(covered)she delivered at Price Court. Normal without complication at all, almost 10k.Fuih…

A’kum & hi Mommys out there. Just wanted to share my exp. My baby girl now dah 1years old. I bersalin dekat Klinik Umra, which is Pakar bersalin & kanak-kanak. Is located at Seksyen 13, Shah Alam (nearby stadium shah alam).
Dari first check up until bersalin kat situ. I ada asthma, that time very difficult for me. Pregnant + asthma?.. Can u imagine?..
My doc, Umra (Ummul doc perempuan, Rafi doc lelaki) + husband & wife. Both of them very friendly, as my doc, they take care of my asthma is very good. They recommend me specialist for asthma. Now my asthma dah boleh control.
Back to the story. The package start from RM999. Bersalin normal. Still can afford to pay la kan?. My friends bersalin kat klang (private) cost her about RM2500?.. Mahal sgt.. Until dia ckap kat i, boleh bersalin 2kali.. huhuhu.. :)
So, from check up, until i masuk dalam bilik nak tunggu masa, their nurse jaga i dari malam until subuh, sampai i dlm labour room, such a sweet memory. My husband ada, my doc Ummul ada.
1 perkara yg i akan ingat sampai bila2, cara doc Ummul treat i baik sangat. Doc ummul ajar i ayat2 sebelum melahirkan anak. What a such a good doc. Dia pesan, jgn jerit, x elok. Dengan soft spoken, dia ajar i ayat2 Al-quran tu, i ikut until i lupa i dah nak bersalin?.. :) . My hbby paling seronok sangat coz dia ade kat sebelah i. Dia dengar i baca ayat2 yg doc ajar tu, dia senyum jer.. Then doc ummul suruh my hubby potong tali pusat baby. My hubby said this doc is very good. I dah recommend all my friends to go this clinic Umra. Now my friends pulak yg recomend kat kawan diaorang. :)

September 23rd, 2008 | 1:54 pm
Needa:

Oh so sorry Sonia, dah lama I tak check this site.

Have you delivered your baby?
If you have, CONGRATULATIONS!

If you haven’t, then I must say delivery with Paul Tay was very good. He was very cool and he asked the midwife to give me some gas after seeing me in a lot of pain. He won’t touch you unnecessarily, unlike the midwife who did VA for so many times and gave incorrect assessment of my ‘opening’.
He gave correct assessment of my delivery time after checking; he was like “it will be over in 4-5 minutes, honestly” and my baby did came out 4 minutes later.

If I have the opportunity to have him deliver my future baby, I’ll stick to him.

September 24th, 2008 | 12:48 pm
Needa:

Another thing Sonia – Dr. Paul Tay will refrain from making an episiotomy unless if he thinks that it is really necessary, especially if this is not your first delivery where it should be much smoother than your first delivery.

If you want epidural, feel free to ask, it’s up to us. All the best!

He is cute.
I don’t mind seeing him for weekly check-up instead of monthly check-up hahaha!!

September 24th, 2008 | 1:03 pm
Needa:

Eza,
That’s quite expensive considering that you didn’t take epidural and deliver your baby at government hospital.
Compared to Putrajaya, UH gave me epidural with no problem. My baby was clean and the nurse who showed me how to breastfeed was also supportive.
I can’t imagine being in your situation, sakit for 36 hours like me and then kena marah2 pulak. I don’t blame you if you feel serik to deliver again because it took me 3 years + a promise from my husband that I’ll get to deliver at a private hospital before having the next baby.

September 24th, 2008 | 1:15 pm
Eza:

Needa: Huhu..Then i must make my husband promise too..hehehe..Now I dah start kumpul duit..eventhough i belum pregnant lagi..just getting ready..i’m looking forward to deliver at Sunway or SJMC after this.

Lili: There’s a package for delivery and it starts from RM 1763 – normal vagina delivery. If u take epidural u need to add extra RM 980..By the way..agree with Jess – how many will qualify for the package…If u have Vacuum or forsep..the package is nulled..
Oh ya..just updating you all on the price of KPJ Kajang. My friend had just delivered her baby there..It cost her RM 7k (VIP room 2days+epidural+vacuum)RM3500, baby jaundice warded 2days RM 1000..hmm reasonable jugak..

September 24th, 2008 | 3:13 pm
Eza:

Eh sory..salah kira..adoi..fail math..total cost RM 4500…
For those yg lost..i’m sory, the package Im talking about is for Columbia Specialist Puchong..

September 24th, 2008 | 3:20 pm
lili:

eza u mean uf fren deliver in columbia cost 4500 VIP room 2days+epidural+vacuum)issit? heheh im confused already, how abt the nurse and doctors there? my fren recommend of the gynae there

September 25th, 2008 | 8:41 am
sonia:

Hi Needa,

Thanks for the info. No, I have not delivered yet! Anyway, I am still pretty calm about it because the people who delivered under Dr. Paul Tay has very good things to say about his style – very supportive and he keeps the mother calm so they don’t ‘freak out’.

I HATE doctors who talk down to mothers and treat us like IDIOTS!

It’s good he does not do routine episiontomies, because I don’t plan to have one unless it is absolutely necessary.

I’m sorry you had to endure all the VAs from the nurses :( They are normally so rough and unsympathetic. Thank god the doctor does not do it often!

I wanted to ask you, when Dr. Tay broke your water bag, was it PAINFUL????

September 25th, 2008 | 9:26 am
ieda:

wow moms…what a great story to share i’m going to deliver for my 3rd but still having doubts…1 mth plus away from due date
my 1st @ SJMC yr 2004 for me quite expensive but services excellent with dr delaila…3d+2n vacuum, pain killer plus ephidural and baby warded jaundice 5d…total 5k
2nd last yr c-sec due to high bp (hypertension) shud be at s alam specialist s19, but not enuff facilities so refer to UMMC. so many comlications and hubby not allowed to stay beside due to normal wards (but nurses and food excellent only there was trainess huhu)so hubby fed up and asked to go to SJMC but we’re out of luck so went to HUKM (so traumatic exp). Okay only the nurses kinda rude but docs did impress me so professional and thorough all in all +-3.5k (1k at salam warded to ctrl bp; 500 depo for UMMC and 2k plus for c sec at HUKM non pvt). Now my 3rd this yr (accident) doing check ups still at salam (cos near my house)hopefully no complication because c sec can cos u 4k and above..now i heard the umra i wish i had done a survey before hand
for 1st time mom my advise if u can afford then go to pvt and make sure liase with all the nurses and everything because ur 1st time mom and doesn;t know anything..i was lucky to deliver @ SJMC because they helped me a lot and taught me how to bf everything so my 2nd altho traumatic (imagine after c sec they asked u to take care of bb and do everything :( ) ok la just wait for the 3rd and see how..wish me luck

September 25th, 2008 | 10:16 am
Needa:

Hi Sonia,

Actually, I was in so much pain that I didn’t feel anything when the doctor broke my waterbag. Make no difference at that stage.
(I’m not sure whether this info is helping you or not!!)

This was my first experience delivering baby without epidural – I was like oh my god! But again, try not to scream, take a deep breath and concentrate on pushing.. (yeah and this coming from a woman whom her husband said her eyeballs looked like they were coming out of their socket masa meneran) Hahaha! When I look at my precious baby now, I still feel glad that I pushed and pushed…

September 26th, 2008 | 8:41 am
Needa:

Eza,

Way to got, girl!

I mean, we are the one who has to endure all the painful and ugly stuff, not to mention to wake up 3 times at night to breastfeed our baby and basuh berak etc, pendek kata we women do everything for our baby…the only thing that I ask my man to do is to kumpul duir sikit2 to minimmize the risk of meroyan for me and have a happy + no additional stress delivery.
That’s all. I think we all deserve it, if it’s not too much of a burden for the family…

September 26th, 2008 | 8:47 am
Needa:

Yes I agree with Ieda.

This site is VERY good for first time mothers. If you can afford it, try to go to a private hospital because this is your first time delivering a baby and you need all the help and guidance and support that you can get.

Not to say all government hospitals are bad, but most of the time it depends on your luck. I’d really appreciate if my husband or mother is allowed to be by my side when I’m delivering, and also be allowed to have a proper rest after delivery.
Some nurses suka tunjuk pandai and marah2 us as if we are some spoilt brat, unlike doctors who are very professional and understanding.

Art4334:

good info here gals. Likewise, I’m looking for a place for my wife to deiver. she’s suppose to deliver 28 Oct and was referred to a gh but on the checkup day, we were told that no specialist is around. so now I’m scouting for reasonable places. Thinking of going to UMRA in Shah Alam but afraid they might not do c-sect. wife had history of c-sect, vacuum twice and the last one c-sect, so most probably this one c-sect as well. i list down the most probale places;
1) Salam (Shah Alam)
2) DEMC (Shah Alam)
3) Pantai Indah
4) Ampang Puteri
5) UMRA Shah Alam

I’m suppose to see a gynae at Pantai Puteri but he’s oversea until 1st Oct. Will go to Shah Alam next week to seek opinion. Why Shah Alam or Ampang Area? cos there’s no specialist nearby in Tg Malim…

September 26th, 2008 | 7:58 pm
Eza:

Lili….
I’m terribly sorry…I confused myself too..Was rushing when I’m writing the post..Let me clarify..
For Columbia Specialist, there’s a delivery package starting from RM 1763 – normal vagina delivery + 4bedded room. If u take epidural u need to add extra RM 980..Thats the price i got for Jan 2008..not very sure if they have increased it recently. If u have Vacuum or forsep..the package is nulled..

That 4500 is the price in KPJ Kajang.(VIP room 2days+epidural+vacuum)RM3500, baby jaundice warded 2days RM 1000..

Hope it helps..I am extremely sorry..

hi Art4334
i suggest that if you can afford then you may go to salam and demc..personally i like salam not too crowded (yeah ur paying money how come u q like public haha)plus my current ob dr siti is fantastic and fare ok so far; but also look out from umra i heard they’re so good humm..c sect i think most of pvt can do this

Art4334:

went to Shah Alam yesterday; thought of making one round to see which one my wife prefers but coming out of Guthrie Expressway, naturally UMRA would be the 1st stop. 1 thing led to another, we settled at UMRA after 30 minutes consultation with the doc; had to go again a day before the op to check bp level and order any blood if needed. will write further when the time has passed. BTW, consultation fee is $65 plus some iron supplement..

p/s;
Was lucky didn’t go to DEMC. The place was really crowded with people going to the banks nearby, with some resorted to parking on the main road leading to sec. 8..

jess:

This one I not sure so I thought to bring it up, maybe some of you know.

So far you all comment about insensitive treatment from government nurses. But this is small matter compared to what I have in mind.

It is about shortage of specialists(gynaes) and OT(operating theatres). How often is it that people who are rushing to deliver in OT have to wait because not enough gynae/OT?

I say they are rushing because the baby is at risk.

September 30th, 2008 | 5:12 pm

Actually, I am starting to think SJMC is not that expensive. People delivering under Dr. Siti at RM2k+.

Any opinions?

jess:

Do you all agree, induce for no reason other than convenience of time?

My first 1st came on exact date. I woke up and got ’show’ (a bit of blood in my underwear). Then I went to hospital. (I think the nurse got put in pill for induction at the hospital). Baby came out in less than 3hr of 2nd stage labour.

Do you think my 2nd baby also same?

The rest of you(especially if you delivered in private), why did you induce?

Actually what I meant when I said induce for convenience of time is…

I have a fren whose baby did not come on exact day. She went to induce the next day, although she had no symptoms at all.

I would like the baby to come on the day she wants to come (without endangering her life). I certainly don’t want to induce on that particular day just because I/doc free on that day.

Delivered under Dr Siti from SJMC! My bill was RM2300. She is quite good la. Very long queue. But if U prefer to be seen by her….find a way & beat the system lor. I am happy with their services there. If I do have a 3rd child—-it will be SJMC. :)

Hi Jess,

As far as I know, doctors only induce the pregnancy if it is past the due date or during very important festive seasons such as CNY or Raya where the doctor needs to go back to home town. Other than that, unless requsted by the mother, the doctors do not do it.

Hi Needa,

Thanks for the info. If you did not experience pain during labour…you would be lying! :) So I’m glad you told the truth.Better to be honest than ‘mislead’ :) .

You so cute. My friend said the same thing about her labour….her eyes were about to pop out…and the whole ward could hear her scream!

Looks like I’m in good hands then, glad I found him!

I don agree to induce for doc’s/mom’s time convenience. Should only be for medical reason.

Maybe if some docs not free when around that time, he should say so first, so that the mom can get a ‘reserve’ doc?

yeap couldn’t agree more with mom..SJMC for me was the best but to hear that some are being charged below 2k or more or less…waweeee i wish the same; maybe dr siti really chg lower than others? dunno. art4334 pls indulge us when they the day come ok…and jess i don’t agree induce for ‘pleasure’..most of the docs that i’ve seen prefer to wait for natural course..

Hi sonia, sorry my reply is so late – been bit busy these past few weeks.

I think Nadia’s already written quite a bit about Dr Tay’s style but just thought I’d add on a bit.

My tear was a natural tear, not an episiotomy. If you’re opting for natural delivery, Dr Tay’s the right gynae to go with. Like I mentioned earlier, I didn’t have an epidural, as Dr Tay encouraged me to go without, provided I felt I could stand the pain. Yes, it was painful (is childbirth ever not painful? :-) but not unbearably so.

Hmm.

Or you could ask me again in 2 months, when I deliver my second baby. My memory may have become fuzzy over time! :-)

October 6th, 2008 | 5:35 pm

Hi All,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I initially feel so afraid to have to seek medical treatments at UMMC. I am a Scleroderma patient, and have a high risk of early delivery, and the baby may end up in the oxygen tank for 2 months. 2 months of oxygen tank in SJMC, may go up to RM 100k! Therefore, I am looking at Government hospitals. UMMC may be my first choice, as the Rheumatology is quite developed over there, and after reading your valued comments on the Gynae side, I have more confident now. I welcome advise! Thanks!

hi mom-to-be,

sorry for the late reply, hasn’t checked the website for quite some time.. hopefully u’re still able to read this before yr delivery.. but if u already had, congratulations! and do share yr delivery experience,:)

husbands is allowed during delivery, so don’t worry, just get yr hubby to stand by. i was in the 2nd class ward, the 1st class ward is always fully occupied. (someone told me that they give priority to the government staff.)

my experience, buleh la.. can’t demand much.. but i really pity for those who delivered c-sect. they have to take care of the baby on their own at night. x buleh org teman..

the main thing that bugging me was the trainee doctor which will make rounds and keep interviewing you. i know that they are learning, but yg nyampahnyer, kita lah bahan experiment.

i dunno if they still have that kind of
practice now. Btw, just for yr info, i’ll be delivering my 3rd one at Seremban Specialist. So far so good, and i really like my gynae. hope everything’s well je la..

hi erin,

thank you so much for your informative reply..
i haven’t delivered yet.. but going to, soon! in 1 wk time!!
as this is my 1st time, i’m very nervous..
hopefully everything will go well
so, how’s Seremban Specialist?
is it KPJ near seremban 2?
did they over-charged you?
maybe i’ll go for private hospital for my 2nd one..
kenalah start savings dr skrg

ok erin, good luck to you too!

October 9th, 2008 | 9:28 am
erin:

u’re correct mom-to-be, seremban specialist is the KPJ near the museum.

i’ve went for the pre-natal check-up twice, and the charges are quite ok, i think. of course they might charged you extra for the blood test, and other test as well. But if the consultation without any vitamins or supplement it would be around rm50-rm60 only, inclusive the ultrasound. for my second checkup, i didn’t get any of the supplement from the hospital. i bought it at the local pharmacy, much cheaper, heheheh…

the package they are offering is about RM1,500++ for a standard single room for normal delivery. which also covers baby paeditrician after the delivery. but this one x masuk epidural and any other complications. i’m hoping that i won’t get into any complications lah…

i’m so excited for u mom-to-be.. do update here once you delivered tau!

I had my delivery at Lourdes Medical Centr in Jalan Ipoh. Rather small hospital but service acceptable. I wa supposed to go for normal delivery, had my epidural, seconds after that had complication, it seems that the umbilical cord tangle around my baby’s neck, so we had to do emergency c-sect.All in all cost us 3.5K.Until today when I went for my baby’s check up, the staffs are still very friendly.Every visit I get to have free formula, sometime sone can or two. They even present me with baby travel bag.Cool!i stayed 3 days two nights. But the only drawback is the room is pretty crampy.

Columbia at Puchong is quite new, in Bandar Puteri, Puchong. Bandar Puteri ( a little after IOI shopping mall) is relatively new, many semi-d houses (over RM1 mil) and many interesting shops.

I also want to know normal delivery w/o epidural how much?

October 14th, 2008 | 7:29 pm
Art4334:

Klinik UMRA in Sec13, Shah Alam caters for normal(999) n caesar(2999) provided there’s no complication n no meal provided. For comparison, SALAM charged $4100 n DEMC charged $4500 for elective delivery. Since meal is off the tab, I found it ok cos we could decide what to have for meals. The rooms are bigger compared to SALAM or DEMC (as commented by my friend who delivered there) My wife delivered on 10 Oct; during op, she’s fine but 2 hours after that, she suffered bleeding, hence the extra medication n 5 pints of blood tranfusion that pushed up the bill to $4400. Both doctors were kind andd they even visited us at night.
Overall, for easy parking n the services provided, I think the clinic excelled in terms of value for money n well worth ur time.

will deliver my baby at Damansara Specialist Hospital (c-sec). Dr. Maziah. have no choice because my orthopedist, my physician, all are from DSH. meaning, my records are in DSH. maybe should just stick to DSH. anyone knows the rate for c-sec, single room there?

hi all, just to share.. i delivered my first baby in 2005.. i did my check ups in HUKM, private wing with Prof Hashim..all lady doctors were fully booked..then since i insist on having a lady doc, i decided to deliver in Columbia Asia, Seremban. My gynea was Dr Nor Intan, she was great, service was great..i got single room, normal delivery, pethadine and gas, total RM1700.
Last year i had a miscarriage, went to Dr Siti (SJMC). She suggested for me to go for DNC. But i asked for alternative since a few of my frenz said that it was painful+expensive..so Dr Siti gave me tablets sort of like induce so that i’ll have a minor contractions. do it for three days..and thank GOD when i go for my follow up with her..complete abortion..all is out. if not i still had to go for DNC. But it was a scary experience for me..to see all those blood coming out ..
Now i’m pregnant again..and hopefully everything goes well this time…there’s 2 private hospitals opening up in kota damansara; Tropicana Medical Centre (near segi college) and Alpha Specialist Centre in Dataran Sunway. i’m checking them out soon..will inform u guys on my findings. If not so good, then i’m considering Pusrawi Kota Damansara.

I just gave birth to my 4th last month at Pantai Bangsar. Baby was breech but thank God my gyne is very experienced in breech birth so I had a normal, breech birth. Surprisingly, charges at Pantai didn’t went up much since my firstborn in 2000, total bill including baby’s was less than RM3,500. I’m just glad my gyne didn’t ask me to go for c-sec, otherwise lagi lambat recover and not to mention mahal! *phew* Service, as with other private hosp, was of course good. Have always liked the nurses, especially at the delivery ward. All baik-baik one!

I heard UMSC have the most Professors in town. They teach and provide consultant work too. Fee is quite reasonable compared to many other private hospitals. Visited UMSC recently and find their services good value in comparisons to the payment. At such fee I still get the best Professor in town. Certainly would recommend to many. The Professor who check me was so gentle and took good care in explaining to me step by step. From my past experiences, a few of the gynae I visited wasn’t as gentle as this time.

Sherine:

I delivered my first baby in DSH and it was about $5K for normal birth. My baby had jaundice and there was an extra $1.5K. I am very happy with the service and doctors there. I will be having my second one soon in about a month and will be going there again. Checkup are quite expensive about RM150 above to RM200+. The scanning machines are good and can even do 4D. I knew very early that my baby is a boy (unlike many of my friends who were not sure until the end or some even had suprises!). They even have a service where after your delivery, you can get the midwife to come to your house to check on your baby and you (that is when I found out my baby had jaundice) at quite a reasonable rate. Also the good thing about the hospital is that there is valet (great especially when parking is full!) – Hah!

I took epidural the first time and advocate it. You will feel so relax and best thing about it is that you won’t feel tired and exhausted by the pain so when the baby is here, you will have enough energy to focus on your baby.

By the way anyone knows of any midwife living in Kota Damansara area? I am wanting to get someone to come to my house to check on me to make sure I am actually in labour before going into the hospital. I have a 1 1/2 month old baby girl that has almost never been separated from me before so it will be a little tough during the delivery and want to make things as smooth ass possible. I want to ensure that I am actually in labor and want to go to the hospital at the right time. If you know anyone that is a midwife please pass my contact lohsherine @ yahoo dot com

Thanks

hye,
can anyone suggest to me the best gynea at Pusrawi Kota Damansara?

November 20th, 2008 | 1:45 pm

I delivered in HUKM (semi-gov section). Had C-sec, stayed for 5 days, 4 nights, for RM899. Overall I’m satisfies with the service. Most nurses are friendly and helpful. On the 1st day after delivery, I couldn’t get up from bed, so the nurses took care of my baby (fed with formula, of course). On 2nd day, I could get up a bit, but still weak and painful, the nurse took my baby to see me without my asking (I’m happy bout that!). On 3rd day, I start to take bath (just wipe body only) and a nurse accompanied me during my bath time, helping me to wipe my back (very helpful!). Also, the baby was with me full time by the 2nd half of the 3rd day after delivery (yes, that’s what I want!). They encourage exclusive breastfeeding, but they still provide formula should you request. My baby was a real big eater, so much so he got very impatient with my small flow of colostrum and cried non-stop. So in the end I have to ask for formula milk from the nurse, which they gave. There’s also a lactation nurse going from bed to bed to check/teach/guide/advise on your breastfeeding position/posture/etc. As for post-natal appointment, they ask you to see outside doctors if you are from private sector. But if you are gov staff, then they will give you post-natal checkup. Hubby can accompany you during delivery (but my hubby chose to stay at home becos he cannot tahan to see).

My baby has mild bilateral hydronephrosis (dilated kidney) and they still give follow-up appointments to monitor his condition (up to today). Even on the few days after delivery, they have a paediatrician ready to monitor his condition, also did ultrasound scan to my few days old baby. The doctors go round from bed to bed to check your condition. The nurses also changed my pad for me (I could’t get up from the bed).

Conclusion: Good service, cheap price, only thing the food sucks.

mamamateen:

Hi everybody,

Sorry la, i tak pandai tulis bahasa mat salleh tapi i boleh faham. I nak bagi satu tip untuk kita tahu masa betul-betul kita nak bersalin. Tip ni bidan kampung yang bagi kat i lebih kurang 17 tahun dulu, masa i melahirkan anak no. 1. Setiap orang ada pekej masing2. macam coffee 3 in 1.

December 3rd, 2008 | 11:46 pm
mamamateen:

Hi everybody,

Diorang cakap, kalau tak marah, nanti kitorang tak teran betul2.

hii..
currently I am searching for private hospitals that can offer affordable rates for delivering baby. This time I’m pregnant for 2nd child and now Im already 3 months.
After I have reviewed all the comments I started to realise that DSH, Sunway Hospital and SJMC do charge us with higher price. But, frankly speaking my 1st child was born at SJMC. My child was born in normal way ( not ceaseran )and that process itself cost me RM3000. Unfortunately, my 1st child had jaundice and she has to be admitted for 5 days and guess how much it costs???…altogether I have to pay RM 5000.00.At first I thought it was a reasonable price but again that was my 1st child. Now, I’m a bit sensitive in looking price ( in terms of how much these hospitals want to charge me if I want to deliver my baby). So far, I can see many mothers favour UMMC. But, can somebody supply me an information about any gynae in UMMC which I prefer female gynae..I feel so embrassed to see male gynae.

I’ve delivered all my 3 children in Singapore … but now I intend to deliver the 4th in KL …. I’ve no experience with any hospital in M’sia …. but I’d prefer private hospital rather than government…. I’ve seen my mother delivered b4 in HKL … scared me to death ….until now …. although the servive is cheap for 1st class … for my mom is a govt servant …. only cost her RM 24 for c-sec n 3 weeks in special ward …. my baby brother is only 6.5 month during delivery … but tats another story …. I’m really scared for I’ve heard so many stories about private n govt hosp ….. about their service …. I’ve wonderful experienced in Spore (East Shore Hosp) … so maybe I’m expecting more from KL private hospital …. I’ve asked around and the feedback I’ve receive is SJMC is providing the best service …. also SMC ….. I’m now almost 4 month pregnant … n have’nt decided which hospital to deliver becoz I’m not familiar with the system here … I’m not sure to continue with SMC becoz now I’m doing monthly check-up with SMC but the service there is not up to my expectation for its a hospital under KPJ Health Group … largest prvate hosp chain in M’sia …. I’m comparing it with SJMC (have’nt been there yet) … intended to do so to compare both hosp ….. but I really need help to know my way around …. anyone with suggestion ….. I’m really panicking about this situation …. not used to it perhaps …. I need to know the facilities of SMC an SJMC …. coz I’m looking for a clean yet pleasing condition …. thks ….. really appreciate it …..

hi jess …. all my 3 babies is delivered early … 36 to 37 weeks …. my 1st and 2nd normal n vacuum delivery … 3rd normal w/o vacuum …. all were induced …. what happened is I’m too active n there is an infection that cause my cervix to have contraction …. by 36 week its already 2 cm opened …. but all my babies is healthy and can go home after 3d 2n stay ….all had jaundice but a minor one n can de discharged as per normal …. I myself requested for induced for the pain of contraction can last for days n delivery also might take a couple of days … depending on your body …. some can be very fast some can be very slow …. that what my doctor says … which I cannot bear the pain …. I’ve been (for all 3) since 7 month to delivery date having false alarm contraction …. the pain comes and goes …. I cannot manage my family in that condition …. so I asked the doctor to induced …but normally after 2 cm open …. :)

mom-to-be:

hi all,
this mom-to-be has became a mother of a beautiful baby girl!
Alhamdulillah!!
i wanna share my experience delivering in Seremban GH.
overall, not so bad..however, u cannot expect too much la
was admitted in labour room at 2am & delivered at 6.20am.
in labour room, the midwive accompanied me all the time during the contraction and give some tips on breathing techniques..
my husband also accompanied me in labour room as it is encouraged.
the dr was quite garang, maybe what mamamateen said was true.. they want us to be strong so that we can have a successful delivery..
no manja-manja haa…
i was admitted to ward 1 day, 1 night.
the nurses were helpful, they helped me with my baby.. thought me how to feed.. how to hold.. go from bed to bed to check/guide/advise on your breastfeeding position/posture. since i’m a first timer.. maybe they understand that i don’t have any experience.
on the 1st day, i was so weak, so the nurses helped me everytime i need to go to the toilet.
they put me on a wheelchair and waited outside the toilet to monitor if i’m okay. the nurse even helped to tie up my hair(very helpful!)
They encourage exclusive breastfeeding, but if u have problem, they also provide formula.
overall i think the hospital is good, the only thing that makes me uncomfortable was the trainee doctors which will gather around you and keep interviewing.
and..yes erin, they still have that practice now.
so, erin, have you delivered yet?
how’s your experience?

I had my first baby at SMC with Dr Siti who’s great. I had vaginal delivery with vacuum (coz had no idea how to push and ate very little the day before). She’s also the gynae for my sister who had 2 caesarean deliveries with her, because she had small pelvis baby didn’t go down overdue by one week.

5 months pregnant with 2nd baby due in April 2009 need to find different hospital because living in KL now and SMC is far. Thinking UMMC or UMSC, just a matter of $$$.

Leaning heavily on niasulaiman testimony and also for her gynae Prof Siti Zawiyah. Same room for admission and labour plus hubby get sofa bed very appealing, fees not so much. UMMC sound more appealing cost wise otherwise doesn’t sound too bad in comparison except the milling students, need to go for a visit and check it out.

Minty, refer to ur previous comment below “Pusat Rawatan Az-Zahrah Bangi. I wish i could get pregnant again so i can visit the same doctor again.”

June 2nd, 2008 | 2:50 pm

The cost RM1500 is normal delivery? what about C-sect?
Im planning to give birth there, my gynea is Dr. Fazlina..very soft spoken an excellent doc :)

hi all..
my experience for first time(since baru 1 anak je..hehehehe) at putrajaya hsptl. My experience was gud(indeed what u expect from a gov hsptl..my comp & hubby comp xcover maternity cost).Arrived at hsptl around 11pm. Get warded that night. Around 3.30am next morning admit to labour room.My hubby accompany me start from 4am until I bersalin(10.15am). The nurse also quite friendly and helpful, teached me breathing technique…and calm me down. So i guess for gov hsptl, this is consider gud service. Now my princess already 5++month.
Just wonder for any mum staying around equine park/puncak jalil/dengkil..do u know any muslim babysitter(pengasuh)that I can send my princess to. Now she staying with my mum in north. So every weekend will travelling back to see her.Pretty tired & I want to spend more time with her during this stage. Please if anybody can recommend for me…that would really appreciate…email me (dd.razak@yahoo.com) or sms me (0133625206)..thx :)

HI there mommies & mommies-to-be!

I am currently 27weeks along and am planning to give birth in Assunta Hosp. Actuall the current gynae I see delivers babies at Pantain but hubby and I are worriedabout the cost so we asked our DR to recommend us to Assunta. Heard that Dr Liew Fah On is really good and experienced. Can anyone how has given birth in Assunta under his car share their experiences? Or any stories you have heard fr your friends who delivered there? What is the current cost for normal birth / C-sect? Any other cheaper but good hospitas to recommend? Really appreciate your feedback..thanks:)

Hi all..

If any of u stay nearby shah alam, I would like to suggest DEMC (Darul Ehsan Medical Centre) at Seksyen 9, next to Plaza Shah Alam. I’ve delivered my 2nd and 3rd baby there, and are very satisfied with their services.

A number of lady gynaes are available for those preferred lady gynaes. The rates are not so burdening like those KPNJ’s hospitals (cost around 1200-1500). What i like abt their policy is to get the baby born the natural way as far as possible, unlike some pvt. hospital which always recommend c-sect (which i’m not preferred at all).

For the first-time mother-to-be, u can also sign-up for the prenatal classes where u and ur hubby also can participate.

If u want to breastfeed your baby, they will ask u b4 delivery and your baby will be delivered to your room when he/she’s hungry.

I hope this info will help some of mothers-to-be out there..

MFR:

Its important for you guys to take up a medical insurance that can cover the cost of maternity.

I’m really surprise on reading some of you kena kumpul duit dulu untuk bersalin. Anything can happen during labour, be it pain killers, epidural, c-sec, etc. The cost may rise even you have a done package.

A package is only good as the fine print. Be sure to read everything and anything about your maternity package.

So again — Ambik insurance wahai ibu2 sekalian.

u can type http://www.umra.com.my and try to look for the address. The clinic situated nearby the Shah ALam stadium. This post is very informative as my wife is going to give first birth this coming april. I think I’m going to UMRA as the place is quite peaceful and the Dr is very friendly. My wife had a detailed scanning (3d scan) and only cost about RM90 which is reasonable. Good luck lizazmi. hope u can find the clinic

Dear MFR,

Could you recommend us any insurance company which can cover maternity costs. So far so good I have not come across anyone of them covers this costs. But I came across few years ago that they do pay if you deliver after 1 year the policy was taken. Itu pun RM500.00 sahaja. It is a very very good news for us if there is one.

I just called UMMC 03-79494422 today to find out about how to register and make appointment, etc.

For antenatal checkup, they have antenatal clinic which is separate building (near Dental faculty it seems, I’ve yet to go)

They’re open office hours i.e. Mon-Fri, not sure what happens on the weekends.. but fees-service ratio so good I’m overlooking other things (like medical students; besides, we need gynaes in the future too so I’ll participate as their “medical experiment” but females only and except stitching if I can avoid it– I find healing stitches the worst part of the whole delivery process).

Someone here says delivery will cost around RM500 and checkup RM20+ and you’ll have to wait around 3 hours for your turn or whatever. Sounds good to me, save some money and take the day off from office. After finish check up can go jalan2

hi all … mommies …. so far I’ve been looking and asking around for hospitals …. I’ve been to SMC and SJMC for check-up … n really am liking the services provided by SJMC …. compared to SMC …. actually if we compared the price it is not far apart but the services given is very satisfying …. worth every penny …. SMC and other govt hosp is ok … but only if they can provide better facilities n services such the restroom … canteen … n shops and most important cleanliness ….. don’t you all agree that the cleanliness of the toilet n cafeteria is important? If they can improve all this their services will be even greater ….

HOW FAST YOUR STITCHES HEAL depend on the doc’s skill. Should take no more than 1 week.

But if your doc do internal stitching, you’ll hardly feel it. You can sit upright right after delivery. But not all docs do this stitching. Ask your doc.

Just found this great site.. thought i’d share my experience delivering at a govt. hospital.

I gave birth to my first baby at sungai buloh hospital. Seeing that im a govt servant, why not make the most of the perks right? Well, my experience wasnt too bad. My husband was there in the labour room during delivery (consider me lucky). The nurses were ok la kot, not that friendly and reassuring, but then again, you cant expect much from govt hospitals kan?

The tough part was
i)when you’re all alone in the labour room, going through labour by yourself (hubby was only allowed in when i was ready to deliver – upon request),
ii) being scolded (more like ‘perli’)by the nurse for using the wrong pushing techniques (excuse me for having zero experience on this! :p)
iii) being there alone in the ward after delivery, especially at night, trying to breastfeed you baby,
iv) being scolded by this pregnant nurse for not knowing how to breastfeed
v) going home ‘lenggang-kangkung’ with no medication whatsoever… no pain killers, no solution to clean the wound. nothing whatsoever!

Overall, i can’t complain, cause throughout that pregnancy, (my checkup were at the govt clinics as well, damn long queue!!) we spent only RM6. So for RM6.. we can’t complain la kan? :p

For this pregnancy, we’re planning to go private. So far we’ve had our checkups at DEMC with Dr. Fairuz. Nak compare dgn govt, mmg mahal gile!!

But with all that said about the govt. hospital, i must admit, the checkups with them are the most thorough and you tend to learn more about your pregnancy. For that, I have to give them credit.

Jus found this site. Very informative & good sharing.

Am pregnant with my 4th. 1st was delivered at Selayang Hosp – I was staying in Rawang then & the hosp was new at that time. 2nd & 3rd was at Naluri Wangsa Maju with Dr Kay. No regrets – delivery, charges & service are tops.

Am now staying in Bukit Subang, Shah Alam, so looking for somewhere near.

Some Qs for anyone who can answer:

1) Pusrawi Kota Damansara – what are the charges per visit, delivery charges & recommended gynae (preferably lady)?

2) DEMC Sec.9 Shah Alam – what are the charges per visit, delivery charges / packages & recommended gynae (preferably lady)?

Thanks…

Hi All,

It’s great to discover such topic.

I’m planning for pregnancy this year. So were checking through the right place. I were thinking of private hospital but not sure which one.

And i’m from johor. I don’t see that much info for me in johor but let’s hope.

Most probaby I’ll opt for Hosp Sultan Ismail. It’s a semi goverment hospital and it’s just opposite my house. I heard the service and facilities there are very good. I’m not experience any myself.

So probably next week I’m going for my pre-pregnancy check up. Just to see the gynae and how they treat us there.

February 24th, 2009 | 4:32 pm

In year 2007 i delivered my baby in KJMC. Saw Dr. Silvam. He’s one of the best Gynae in town. Previously he was attahed to UMMC but now with KJMC. The specialist services here is superb, but others such as room condition, food etc are super duper bad!! But of course you get a convenient parking. It’s all up to us whether we need a good doctor or good additional convenience. As for me i wanted a good gynae, so I went for it. And of course the paediatrician Dr. Syed Nazir is excellent at his job. So when you know MOM + BABY is in the safe hands so why not try KJMC.

Dear may, ashfa & julie,

I hv no complaints abt Naluri Wangsa Maju. It’s a good place for checkups & to deliver. There are 2 doctors – Dr Kay & Dr Zana. I was with Dr Kay.

Service, facilities & food are all ok. Like I said, no complaints. I had normal delivery, stayed in a 1-bedded room for just 1 nite. The package 2 years ago was RM1499. Not sure abt now & for c-sect.

You guys should go and check it out yourselves. Take care..

Been to UMRA, but very dissapointed with the gynea. She’s very rude and she got me rushed and admitted to Putrajaya Hospital for nothing due to false alarm that she claims that I have an ectopic pregnancy. Hi all,

Its great to find this site.. well… my experience at DEMC was great for both of my previous delivery.. My gynae is Dr Zamri and he was recommended by the staffs of being very good at “jahit-menjahit” ni.. For my first baby with him, i did’nt feel almost anything (without epidural..!, during my pantang also is like nothing happen, xsakit! of course the pushing part is berterabur la for first baby kan.. hehe.. but with his kind help and the friendly yet understandable nurses, alhamdullillah all went well.. anak first, vacuum+induced cost me about RM2900 if im not mistaken.. Anak kedua, konon2nye nk tukar ke gynae perempuan la, so i chose this lady Doc, quite famous gak la.. but after few consultations and gossip2 with the nurse, they still recommend Dr Zamri as they said the “jahitan” is kemas and the most important part is, my hubby didnt feel any difference even after i have 2 babies!.. meaning, mcm mase awal2 kawen dulu laaa… hahaha.. and yg buatkan plus point kt Dr Zamri ni, one of the staff yg baik dengan i tu story that some of the makcik2 or lady yg dh lama kawen pun dtg blk kt Dr Zamri semata2 nk “rapatkan” balik… hmmm.. after the consultation, ape lg, i terus switch back to Dr Zamri laa…!! untuk kebahagiaan hubby gak… hahahaha…Overall cost for 2nd birth, normal, no induced, totally normal is around RM1900..
I really really really hope that my this coming third baby, i can deliver again at DEMC.. tp mcm was2 on the cost coz with that amount, i can buy formulas for my first and 2nd baby… tengok la macam mana…

Ish..ish..ish.. I honestly thought the standard for government service already increased or better, but by judging how they treat you.. I honestly want to cancel my plan delivering at that hospital

hi. i’ve not visited this site for a long time. i gave birth last october 2008, for the third time at umsc. i can’t remember how much i paid but it wasnt that too far off from the second delivery (saper rajin boleh scroll for ‘older comments’). not much complaints. taken cared well by the nurses, midwives and gynae. delivery was fortunately easy, so much so that the gynae tak sempat sambut. everything was handled by the midwife and there was just a small tear, thus no episiotamy nor stitches needed. i took only pethadine and gas to reduce pain (but still painful anyway). i delivered at umsc again because 1. gynae has my medical history since first baby 2. labour and ward room is the same so no moving around 3. husband can accompany me throughout labour and can even sleep in the room 4. room is spacious for visitors to come beramai-ramai

again this really depends on your budget and where you live. I delivered my daughter in 2002 in Sunway Medical Centre because this hospital is quite near to where I stay and honestly I didn’t want to go to government hospital to deliver my baby… Anyway, if you have financial constraint, government hospital is good, it’s a lot better than those days. I remember I choose for a 2 persons room but because I delivered my daughter almost end of the year, hospital’s room was super peak, I was asked to stay in the 4 persons room but it was okay, back then all the nurses were imported from india, they were gentle, caring and very nice an friendly. i remember this funny incident, i didn’t have milk after i delivered my daughter (via C-section) and I didn’t have breast milk too :( I requested the nurse to feed my daughter with formula milk as my daughter was so impatient. one day the nurse ran to me and said “Madam, your daughter cried not enough milk, other baby drink 4 ounces, same goes with her she still cries, I gave her another 2 ounces = 6 ounces all in, she is happy again”….

Im largely suprised at the amount of intervention used giving birth here. My previous 2 babies were born in Australia and they encourage natural birth and breastfeeding as much as possible.

After reading ALL your posts im now nervous they will want to stick needles in me and chop me up! Especially since my EDD is so close to Raya.

Anyhow will keep a look out here and keep reading. If anyone would like to share info with me about near by hospitals or experiences please email me @ brothersista@hotmail.com

Am very happy to share my birth experiences but i dont want to take up too much of your time!!

Take Care

Hi new mum,

I actually think the doctors let the mothers decide their own birthing styles. They will tell you the pros and cons, and leave you to decide which is best for you. While I did not get a c section, I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Some women just don’t want to go through a vaginal birth.

However, what some women are guilty off during pregnancy is not doing enough reading on the subject matter and not asking enough questions during consultation if they are unsure. Some base their decisions on other people’s stories (which is distorted at its best), and old wives tales. Thus, when things don’t turn out the way they thought it would, they start spreading stories, and these stories may influence future mothers..it’s a vicious cycle.

I totally support vaginal births, but I ‘get’ why some women don’t want to do it. :)

New Mum in KL:

Hi Sonia,

Thanks for the encouragement, i suppose your right, im only reading a researching the minority of birth stories and outcomes (whatever i can find on the net) but im sure there is another side. Im glad that as a Malaysian resident (im assuming) that you can confirm for me that the choice is still available. That is great news to hear.

From everything i read it seemed like most of the medics were pro ‘intervention’.

Having said that if the situation nessecitates then c – sect it is. But if i have options, choice, time and strengrh then i would love another natural birth.

One other question for anyone who can answer – when is it advised to leave to go to the hospital? When you get a show? Contractions? How far apart? How do you manage traffic and peak hours? What if you labour lasts 36hours, would you have to stay in the hospital for all your labouring?

The standard practise in Australia is that they make you stay home until your contractions are close to 1 minute apart or they are extremely unbareable.

Thanks and Take Care

Hi new mum in KL …..

Just wondering are u a malaysian, PR or Aussie? Sorry to ask? But there are things u have to consider when u r delivering in KL ….. Facts ….. I am a Malaysian, Singapore PR and now pregnant wif 4th baby …. all other 3 is a Singaporean …. n documentation is a bit haywire here in KL compared to Singapore …. Everything is different including healthcare ….. it is scary considering its the first time delivering in KL …..

New Mum in KL:

Hi Mazni,

I dont mind the question. Im Australian Citizen (born and raised there) however my parents are mixed indonesian / yemeni and my husband is also raised in Australia however has lebanese background.

Having said that we are pretty ‘Aussie’ in our ways of thinking / doing etc but still hold and understand where our parents came from. We are now living here (been over 1 year) and im expecting in sept.

As for papers – did some research and it is more running around and more $$$ and about healthcare in Australia we have medicare which is a govt network which covers most needs. But for the birth here we will be paying ourselves.

Not so worried about those two issues. Just very concerned how i will be handled and how the actual birth will eventuate.

sonia:

Hi new mum,

I assume you are going private for your check ups? If you are, I think they base the hospital admision based on either 3 things – amniotic fluid leakage or real contractions or bleeding.

I think it really depends on how much you have currently dilated and how fast you dilated in your previous labour. If you dilate very very fast, the doctor will ask you to come in as soon as your contractions are 20 minutes apart.

Traffic is not that big a problem, but to be safe, choose your doctor and hospital near your home.

The private healthcare in Malaysia is very good. You get treated very well. Most people say its much better than the private healthcare in Singapore. So, don’t worry so much! :)

Hi All!

Sonia – I do my monthly check-ups at a regular Dr Klinik, im very comfortable with the Dr i found. She then advised me to check out Dr Fatima at KJMC which i did and out of the few hospitals ive visited im content with KJMC – provided i don’t read any more horror stories!! My sis-in-law told me to stop searching the net LOL!

Fatti – I went to Damansara’s Womens Specialist Hospital near Damansara uptown and found that they had moved into Tropicana Medical Centre in KD. Wow very impressive entrance – being a new building and all. The hospital felt like a 5 star hotel. I was all for it. Went to the level where they have maternity etc only to find in a “Womens Specialist Centre” they have no FEMALE gynea’s. I was quite suprised. Well that put me off and anyhow from what i know the nurse said delivery starts at RM5000, i don’t know if i was quoted that price as im a foreigner. So that too was a no-no for me.

hi new mom in KL ….

Ok … so far I’m going to deliver in Spore …. becoz of documentation process …. but i’ve been going to SJMC …. Subang Jaya Medical Centre for check ups and my doctor is Dr Delaila …. she’s a great doctor and so far I’ve been asking b4 deciding to see her …. with my friends and in law ….. especially the ones that delivered in SJMC and they’ve good feedback and experienced during check up and deliveries… although they’ve mentioned different doctors …. Dr Siti and Dr Ang …. they’ve excellent services …. good wards … and facilities … and clean …. it is pricey for check ups (around 150 to 500 ++) per visit but worth the visit and still when I’ve asked around the package range from 3500 +++ to 5000 for normal deliveries ….. and around 7000 to 8000 for c-section …. depends on the patient condition itself ….. :) I’ve tried going for check up in Selangor Medical Centre (KPJ Hospitals) …. not up to my expectation …. and still pricey (120 ++ per check up) and still not satisfying ….. :( … hope that I’ll helps)

and Sonia …. I’m not sure which hospital in Spore that they commented …. but so far my experienced with East Shore Hospital, KKH (Kandang Kerbau Women Hospital) ….. Singapore General Hospital (SGH) ….. Mount Elizabeth Hospital and even Changi Hospital …. is very much satisfying ….. in terms of healthcare facilities ….. :)

Hi,

Been reading the thread here and noticed that most hospitals mentioned are in dsara subang area. any suggestions for hospitals in KL, ampang area to be more precise? Am thinking of going to Ampang Puteri, anyone has experience there?

May 22nd, 2009 | 12:18 am
liXa:

hi Waterlily,

I’ve no experience with Ampang Puteri but i just delivered my baby at Naluri Medical Center 2 weeks ago.
It was great, all the staff were supportive and helpful. My doctor is Dr. Kamaria (known as Dr.K among her patients) and my baby’s doctor is Dr. Khairul Zaman.

I delivered my baby prematurely at 34 weeks because my cervix dilated early. Some people says the due date was miscalculated..heheh but anyhow, it was an easy labor. No complications and the doctors were very quick and professional in doing the job.

I stayed there for 3 days 2 night but my baby stayed at the nursery for 4 days since Dr. Khairul would like to run observation and antibiotics course to my baby.

My bill was RM2094 and my baby’s bill was RM1400 so total would be around RM3.5k. I would strongly recommend new moms on a budget to deliver there as the service is quite good.

hi vain, i delivered my daughter in sunway medical centre via c-section with the help of my female gynae, her name is dr noraini. it was in 2002, well i would say she’s good though sometimes she has her mood swings but understandable as she’s women just like us. i still go to her for my yearly check-ups.

May 26th, 2009 | 10:10 am

hi all… i had just delivered my baby in Columbia Asia Puchong on 21st June 2009. My gynea is Dr Raja Juhaidah. Cost me RM 2600 (normal delivery, 2 bed). You can check out package offered under Dr Raja in her website http://www.alamhamil.com. Great doctor!!! Very confident and supportive. Highly recommended!! The hospital is also well equip and nurses are great.. if u are still choosing a place for your check ups, please go and see Dr Raja. I only went to her @ 36 weeks. Should have gone earlier. The ultrasound is 3D/4D scan at every checkups so you can see your baby face and movements during all checkups. Cost around RM70 – RM120 per visit. Really worth it!!

Dear mommies-to-be
just to share with you guys my BAD BAD BAD experience at klinik UMRA today. ok, lets start from the beginning..i am 11 months married n Alhamdulillah end of june after having cramp at my lower abdomen n muntah2, doctor kt klinik umra confirmed tht i am pregnant. but the doctor asked us to comeback few days later as she could not see the baby..(ni sama kes dgn our friend Lizazmi la nie)..because of this is our 1st time baby, kite yg x tau ape2 nie, g la wat 2nd medical check up kt umra, but kali ni is doktor ummul yg wat check up. tht time senior nurse (big size body-malay-lady-purple uniform) really scared me off because she is sgt2 garang. eventhough the baby can see but the doctor asked us to come back sbb doktor hanya confirm only 85% baby dlm rahim..kemungkinan luar rahim..then i went there for a 3rd time, met Dr. Sudha..ok lah, doktor was saying that my baby is healthy, we finally can see the baby via vaginal scanning at second consultation room (sbb scanner at 1st consultation room is unclear)..n asked us to come for mdcl chck up again after 4 days..and here’s my nightmare begin; on the 4th visits, which is today (27.7.2009@8.30am) me n my husband g lg klinik UMRA. saya di sambut oleh nurse yg garang tuh (big size body-malay-lady-purple uniform), dan dia leh tanya saya, “datang check up lg?”, fine, then as usual, trainee timbang berat bdn sy n amik bP, n they all talking about nurse yg garang tu..because she loves yelling to trainee, n ckp kuat2 dpn customer, “diorang nie kene jerit, baru kerja jalan>.” OMG, so unprofessional..then doktor panggil i utk check up..the doctor name is Doctor Phia. Unlike Doctor Ummul/Doctor Sudha, doctor Phia is not friendly type of person, n makes us uncomfortable to communicate with her..moreover, during scanning, she was pressing my abdomen , tuhan je la yg tau betapa sakitnya..n said x nampak fetus..when my husband asked her some questions, Doctor phia answer: “Could you please quiet, let me finish doing my work first!”..then i dah x sedap ati…doctor phia again asked me to urine n nk wat vaginal scanning…with glance the doctor asked me, “u are tight up to vagina scanning aren’t u?” i looked at her curiously and confusingly try to understand what it is supposed to mean…masa i nk gi toilet plak, i have to wait because one of the trainee nurse ngah nangis kt dlm toilet, tension dgn nurse senior yg garang tu…hmmmm, then after urine, hati i x sedap, n saw my husband kt luar..my husband said, lets go to another klinik sbb i have no patience with ths doctor..rupanye.., doctor rudely ask my husband to go out while waiting for me, she wanted to take care of another patient. we just walk off from the Klinik UMRA, smbil pegang perut, (sbb ngilu, doktor tu tekan during scanning) n we speed the car to go to deMc..kt DeMC we met with Doctor Zamri who is thrillion better consultation & services than klinik umra..the nurse was helpful as well. Dr. Zamri said our baby is healthy, so far normal..but hv to come back after 2 weeks bcos i hv irregular period before my pregnancy..both of us sgt2 lega with consultation from Dr. Zamri. tQ so much DEMC, keep up your good work..To Klinik UMRA pls take this into consideration, improve your service, monitor your staff and sack all inefficient staff..improve your system, take really good care of your trainee as they are still learning at your place and they have huge potential to be a helpful nurse in future..Dr. Sudha, is one of the best doctor, but she wont be all the time there. To all friends who follow this forum, please3x careful with Klinik UMRA. do your best of not experience the same things as i had this morning.

July 27th, 2009 | 10:45 pm
lizazmi:

Wow nana, i’ve never thought that UMRA staff can go into dat extend.. luckily I never continue my consultation with them after my first bad experience. But I heard that DEMC is quite good as well and Dr Zamri is one of the most recomended gynea there. I believe Dr Phia is the one i saw during my first visit, mcm mamak ( dunno wat race) and chubby and pressing hard on the abdomend and search the fetus like she’s never done the procedure before. Seriously, I’ll go along with a man gynea , they are more patience compared to woman gynea.

July 28th, 2009 | 5:53 pm
nana:

hi lizazmi, yup, u r so lucky tak continue consultation with them..confirmed, betul la, she’s the one..actually scanner kt 1st consultation room tu, diorang kata ada problem..phobia tul i dengan UMRA..i chose woman gynea sbb ye la, segankan..but u are right man gynea is better..even my husband pun comfortable with Dr. Zamri

July 29th, 2009 | 2:47 pm
Moonie:

Just like nana & lizazmi, I too had a bad experience with UMRA some 2 yrs ago when i wuz pregnant with my 3rd. Dr ummul almost wanted to do D&C as she couldn’t see the baby after scanning twice in 2 weeks – she said the sac wuz empty. I think it’s the same faulty scanner la.

I went for a second opinion at Naluri Wangsa Maju, back to where I delivered my 2nd child. Just as the scanner touched my tummy, there was the baby… clear and fully formed! That time I was about 9-10 weeks pregnant.

We vowed never to go to UMRA, though it’s near where we stay. Now, I’m with the 4th one… due mid-Oct. This time, we’re trying Dr Zarina Bebe of Pusrawi Kota Damansara. Anyone has any experience with her or with Pusrawi? Pls share ….

July 31st, 2009 | 3:59 pm
lizazmi:

moonie, I’ve never been to pusrawi Kota Dsara, but i think over there is ok. Currently I’m on my 35th week and I had my check up at QHC Medical Ctr. We’re planning to have a waterbirth, however depends if the labor room is available for my own use only during my labor day.

Seriously, not to bad mouth but I’ll never recomended UMRA to any one. I’d rather advise them to go and check up in local klinik kerajaan becoz they are way better compare to UMRA which is so called private practise.

I had 4 times experiences delivered at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital under Dr Fauziah Hassan. She’s really good and motherly. Dato’ Dr Jamilah is also good. I was expected to deliver my second baby at night and Dr. Fauziah stayed in the hospital waiting until I delivered. For my 3rd baby, I went to the hospital at 5 am in the morning because there was contraction and it was already 4 cm opened, and Dr Fauziah also rushed that early morning from Bangi (she stays in Bangi) to Ampang untuk sambut my baby. I was really greatful with the doctor. The charges was not that expencive for private hospital. Mine was under package, single room, normal deliver, 3 days 2 nights about RM2800 after tax + extra bed for my husband. Monthly check-up around RM150. Dr Fauziah has no problem recommending you to be under package if everything is ok during monthly check-up.

I delivered my 1st (2002) & 2nd (2005) child at the Assunta Hospital, PJ. My gyne was Dr Liew Fah Onn. His service, the best I’ve ever had, esp when speaking of his stitching…u can ask my husband. He is very professional, may be that’s why mothers are willing to wait at times, an hour for their monthly checkup which may only t last about 7-10 minutes. The food, great! and their nurses…very caring & friendly (esp in Labour Room). You will even have a chance to visit the labour room in advance.
I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby. Though i long to go back to Assunta, but I had to think twice before doing so. Firstly, I have to consider the traffic flow (from Klang to PJ). It takes forever to reach the hospital esp in the morning. During my 1st delivery, i was quite unlucky, the pain started at 7.30 am. When i reached the labour room, i already dilated almost 6. Secondly, my hubby is very busy type & he despises waiting (but insist on accompanying me on every visitation). So we opt for Selangor Medical Centre, under Dr Shahbahiah. i heard she is also an experience gyne. My 1st visit was ok and I’m quite content with her service, but i sure miss dr liew.

I’ve once be with dr raja, she’s quite ok.i can even sms with her (hoping that she remember me, but luckly she is) if i got something to ask. the last delivery i have with her is a c-section, and after 2 years, i admit her work is quite good. u cant ever tell that i’ve been cut, coz the cut healed nicely at the bikini line.

mayb for the 2nd delivery i will go back to her…:D

Sorry everyone…accidentally hit the submit button…cont from above…

We decided to switch to SMC under dr siti because there was some opinions suggesting that KJMC is not too well equipped…

Reading some postings about Pusrawi K Dsara nows kinda makes me wanna switch..i heard the Pusrawi KL is very good…i.e. they provides to do lists for 1st time parents, doa $ qamat, air zam zam, kurma etc…Is is true?

Can anyone of you nice ladies tell me which is better? SMC or Pusrawi K Dsara?

My concern is more of which nurses threats the mother & baby better?

Of course, we both prefer affordable services but not at the expense of quality..

SMC has quoted 6K for twins normal delivery so does anyone knows what Pusrawi K Dsara charges?

I thank you in advance for any advise.

I’m doing some survey on the hospitals now..I live in bandar kinrara, so i found the nearest in Bandar Puteri , puchong which is Columbia Asia and KPMC. Which one is better? I knew KPMC is cheaper but if the service is not that good, I would rather spend more rather than have a bad 1st experience. Hope anyone can give me some advice. By the way, when is the best time to register myself at the hospital?

Salam Aidilfitri to all Muslim mommies & daddys…

I’ve just had a scary experience on Raya eve, which turned out to be good. I was having spotting since Thursday morning, but my doc at Pusrawi Kota D’sara gave me Dexa injections to strengthen baby’s lungs and Codiprin to prevent me from having contractions, as I was only 35 1/2 weeks along. On Raya eve at 10.30pm, brown spotting turned into heavy bleeding. We went straight to Pusrawi, but they rejected me on grounds that they didn’t have facilities for premature babies. They refered me to Sg Buloh Hospital instead.

I do admire the facilities and experienced consultants at Sg Buloh Hospital! They attended to me immediately (tho frontoffice registration took awhile), by then it was almost midnite… malam Raya :(

Consultant in charge detected an abruptio placenta (uri lekang) and instructed an emergency C-section. I was pushed to Operating theater, which was very new and modern, and my baby girl was out at 2.27am 1st Syawal 20 Sept 2009. Baby was a healthy 2.64kg and doesn’t even need an incubator! She was actually 1 day away from 36 weeks.

Sg Buloh Hospital doesn’t have rude and shouting nurses, or 3rd class facilites. Even 3rd class wards were new and modern…. and only 4 beds to a ward. My C-sect only costs RM200!!! An amazing experience indeed.. what a Raya for me this this year.

hi ladies,

jz wanna share some info on klinik umra, my sister delivered her 2nd baby via planned c-sect total cost was about rm3.5-4k. according to her, the doctor there is nice, when she delivered, she was the only patient there. hence, 100% attention was given to her. this was in Oct2007.

recently, i asked, klinik umra normal deliver package is rm999. i supposed it is reasonable. whether it is a nice fantastic private hospital/klinik, labour pain remains the same :)

as for myself, i delivered my 1st son @ SJMC and my bil was rm3.6k (myself + baby). this was in Mac2008.

hope this helps.

Hi all,
I’m about 3 months pregnant now. Reading the trail of this blog and many others similar to it is getting me all nervous to wait for my delivery date. I live in kajang most of the time but sometimes my husband and I have to go live in Selayang because he has to take care of his mom. He is the only child and so far the system going back and forth hasn’t really bothered me. Are there any good hospitals near kajang that are reasonably priced. I’m expecting my 1st bb in May. I thought I want to go to private hospital but thinking about the bill going up to 10K in a c-section experience has got me really worried. 3 or 4K is about my budget. Reading recommendations by others I think I’ll check out Az-Zahrah Medical centre or if worse comes to worse Putrajaya GH. How about if I’m living in Selayang. What hospitals are raesonable priced and service is alright that I can go to? Anyone can help I will very much appreciate it.

mom-to-be again:

hello all,

i’ve safely delievered my third baby at UMRA Shah Alam on July 3rd this year(after deep thinking of which hospital to go, if u have read my previous entry).. of course nothing can compare to Dr. Zamri of DEMC, hmmm…:( still a bit regret of not delivering with him.. :D

ok, my opinion on UMRA, not bad on the doctors actually, well, i had a very quick labor and im not really “have the time” to perhati everything you see.. to me, the dr that on duty at that time is ok, just that the nurses yg xok.. At DEMC, everything will be assist, inclusive of wheel chairing you, hold you, pendek kata, semua berassist and you will never be left alone.. The doc especially Dr Zamri is very gentle and DO understand your feelings, from the first visit until labor. And he will try his best to be on there on the day that you are delievring, of course you need to early mention to him.. On my own experience, he will still advice the same as my first baby, even you already know what he is going to say, you are still waiting for his gentle tone to advice you.

At UMRA, i have to climb to the labor room’s bed myself (in contraction!) without any help.. hmmm… now i wonder where is my husband during that time? yeah.. wer is he? hmm.. then cerita labor xbyk sgt coz i deliver dlm mase 20mn only, alhamdullillah.. ok tthen after labor, i was pushed to the room, with all the maternity blood still bersepah2 kat my peha, and baju.. oh yes, talking about the baju, i delivered with my own baju ok, xtau le diorg xsmpt nk tukar kan i ke, or mmg kene pakai baju sendiri ke.. i assumed that they all xsmpt la due to the quick labor period..

and again in the room, i was left alone, alone in cleaning my self, alone in panjat the bed and alone in calling the nurse to call my baby for breastfeed. My hubby is stilll bz with the document procedure which i think is a bit slow,( I checked out on the same day) if at DEMC, everything will be done for you. Luckily this is my third baby, n i’ve known things that i need to know earlier..

And i’m a bit unsatisfied with the baby’s BCG’s injection coz normally for BCG, the scar will appear clearly in 2 weeks time, but at UMRA, the scar is a bit slow to appear and the scar is not that visible. My worries faded when DEMC’s pediatrician’s Dr Roliza told me that it is ok.. ( ye la, my first two babies had the clear scar of BCG kan)

To me, everywer is approx the same, depends on your luck seriously, some say the gomen is the best, some say private.. we cant condemn one place or people by one visit only right.. personally, if u ask me, DEMC, Dr Zamri is the best. : )

Hello mumsies….

Each and everyone’s feedback does help a lot! I am a mum to be, 32 weeks now. Currently registered with Klinik UMRA. Initially me and my hubby was turned off by Doc. Rafi’s lack of professionalism, but i thought of giving them a second chance by going there for my second check up. This time it’s his wife, Doc. Ummul. She seems good enough but again after reading what the other commenters have to say about UMRA as a whole, i am having doubts.
But again as Mom-to-be had said earlier, it depends on how lucky you can be. I do appreciate what lizazmi and nana was commenting before, and if i was in nana’s situation i think i would tell that particular doctor to shut up instead! (surprised at how some doctors can be so inconsiderate!). I know for sure to stay clear of that particular doctor.
Thank you hot mamas!
=)

Hi Mommies,

I had my first daughter in 2007 at Pantai Hospital, Pandan Indah and the service was great. My gynae was the head OBGYN of the hospital, Dr. Suhaimi Isa and I would recommend him to everyone. He gives a thorough check up during all my visits (30 mins minimum for each checkup) and he makes all his patient feel comfortable as he is very easy going and friendly and loves to answer any questions that you may have.

I took the 3D 2N normal delivery package, the room was twin sharing, and at that time was RM1,888. I had to be induced and opted for epidural so my total cost came up to RM2500++. The midwives and nurses were excellent and extremely helpful. I asked to be room-ed in with the baby and the nurses did ask if i wanted breastdeed the baby first before they gave formula milk. A nurse came in a few hours after my delivery and thought me how to breastfeed the baby, which was great and all my calls to the nurses were answered promptly. My monthly ceheckups were between rm100 – rm200.

I am due for my 2nd baby in Nov ‘09, and I am continuing my checkup at the same hospital. The rate for normal delivery package is now RM1,980 , and I would still recommend it to anyone living in the Ampang area. This will always be my first choice of hospital for delivery because of the affordable cost and most importantly excellent doctore and staff.

hi mommies

I just want to share my experience at UMRA. I was introduced to Dr. Ummul by a friend during my first pregnancy. At that time I was confused as to which doctor to go to for my maternity check ups. Of course I have made up my mind of not going to govt hosp due to so manyyyyyy……. bad stories no doubt there are good ones but very very rare to hear. Coming back to my story I conceived after waiting for 2 years. During the said pregnancy I experience few complications e.g. few occassions of bleedings during pregnancy and at 1 occassion I suffered severe asthma due to exposure to mosquito spray. I also have continous coughing and flu experience through out pregnancy. With all these problems I came to Dr Ummul and Dr. Rafi and at all times they have guided me and treated me well and finally I safely delivered to a beautiful 3KG baby girl. I opt for C-section because I couldnt stand the pain and they charge me for RM2920 only. The nurses there treated me very well and I never felt being left alone. Now I am pregnant with my 2nd one and still I have my trust with Dr. Ummul and Dr. Rafi. I feel sorry for those who got bad experience with UMRA but my experience with them always a good one.

Hi….
Just want to share my experience delivered at Tawakal Hospital,Jln Pahang(KPJ Hosptl) on April 3 this year…Very2 satisfied with my Dr. Jaafar,He’s really2 good and i have a wonderful experiences there..All the nurses that handled me also are really2 good too….they are very patient and the services are excellent…And thanks to my husband too…He was in the labour room to accompany me from the beginning till the end of the delivery…(long time he stayed there about 24+ hours to support me and he went out for a while to eat and pray in our single room but never leave me alone when i’m in pain and never leave me more than 20 mnts and he’s also see Dr. Jaafar sewing that part too…)..
I request to deliver early 3 weeks from my due date because my last u/sound my baby’s weight estimate is 2.9kg so Dr.Jaafar just check my cervix and said that it’s a risk to deliver early if cervix is not matured yet and usually end up with c-section……But after check all the condition of the cervix and my baby, he said that it’s seems ok to delivered early…So on 2nd April,I was warded(labour room) and induce at 9am..But my cervix seems difficult to dilate …At 12 hours it’s only open at 5cm and the contraction was so strong at night and the nurse adviced me to take the painkiller injection once and after that there were no contraction at all and i can sleep well that night..But at 9.00am the next day, Dr. Jaafar check again and it’s still remains 5cm so he decided to broke my waterbag at 9.30am..And the pain began, right away after he broke my waterbag and i’m cried to the nurses that i’m going to deliver soon and ask for the painkiller injection because it’s hurt so much and i can’t bear it anymore…They are really helpful give me the strength and support and teach me how to use the gas to relieve the pain after the painkiller injection is useless because its still hurt.., and guess what i’m delivered at 10.13 am..So fast n smooth….The jahitan also very kemas n no pain at all…I’m very satisfied with their services..
so its cost me RM3200++,(3 days 2 nite,single room,normal deliver+induce+2 times painkiller injections+gas+)

Shereen:

hi all mommies!!

this is really a lot of “stories” abt Private Hospitals.
i just like to share my story about Gov Hospital.

recently delivered my 2nd baby at Selayang Hospital. did my check-ups at local GP clinic until my 6th month (coz first we thought i wud go Roopi to deliver), but then coz of financial constraint, we changed our mind and decided to go there. later continued all my check-ups at nearby district gov clinic (hate the long queue, but what to do? it’s free) til my overdue date. went back there to get a letter to be admitted.
long story short, nurses, midwives and doctors there were real nice, and gentle. even the trainee doctors are nice! maybe because i smiled at them everytime i see them (even after my delivery in labour room) and even chatted with them. i even chatted with the doctor who was stitching me up (indian lady doc).
i can say i had a pleasant time there (even my husband says it’s much better than our first baby that was born at HUKM – bad experience). staffs all was courteous.

but i can say, different ppl, different experience. it would be a plus if you understand and speak malay/english. coz i’ve seen some poor souls get scolded by the nurse as they dun speak/understand the language at my gov clinic.

stayed there for (all normal, no inducing, no painkiller) 2D1N in 4 bedded air cond room w/ 2 bathrooms attached (considered 2nd class RM 35 p/nite), delivery costs RM 150 (coz i chose 2nd class, if 3rd class much much cheaper) and plus medication etc, total bill is rm260.

i would def recommend Selayang to others that have low budget like me. you may check out their website http://hselayang.moh.gov.my/ (though not much info, but u can email your enquiries to them and they’ll def reply you – i tried and satisfied with their service, coz some, dont even get back to you)

Salam,

Please think twice if you want to go to Pusat Perubatan naluri in Wangsa Maju.

My friends had very bad experience there.
Basically this is a small clinic and not prepared to handle emergency cases.

The Dr’s are also incompetent and are only thinking about profits. there was a case where Dr K of naluri was even talking on the mobile phone while stitching up my friends wife. She then had infection .

Another friend lost a baby because the Dr would not come in at night to attend to them

There are many more horror stories of Pusat perubatan Naluri.

Also, do check out databases with the civil and sessions court and you will notice that this clinic has various court cases going on for negligence..

Just a heads up to other parents to be.

Heaney:

Hi,
I had my delivery in Seremban Specialist Hospital(SSH) last Dec. I stay in KL but mom is in Sban. It was my 1st delivery and being a new mom, I was of course scared (of the labour pain & complications). However, thank God!, it was a super easy process for me! I initially registered at PPUM for monthly check-up and it took me from 10am to 3pm to register, make payment, test urine, waiting for result, queque again to buy medicine etc. I went back to register for monthly check-up & was told to come back in 2 mths time bcoz all appointment was fully-booked! And PPUM only allowed 1 ultrascan throughout yr pregnancy. I was having some mild bleeding then but can only see the gynae in the next appointment in 2mths time! Later, to save time n headaches (of worries), i went to a private G&O clinic in KL . Charged RM90 (med + ultrascan)monthly. On the 8th mth, i went to SPH, my gynae was Dr.Ivan Lee. Each time, i waited 3 hrs for consultation. Charged RM50 (w/o med, c/w scan). I had normal delivery but with induce+epidural+episiotomy+vacuum, stayed 2N1Day(but charged as 1N1D bcoz i checked-in 11pm for inducement, not considered as admission yet), single room c/w tv,sofa..cost me RM3K all in, inclusive of paediatrician fee&med. I checked in 11pm at nite for inducement, doc broke water bag the next 8am and started on epidural. Tho on epidural, yet stil can feel some discomfort, something like period pain during labour. Towards the 2 hours b4 labour, it was getting more painful, just like having a stomach diahrhea upset, but yet bearable. Doc came at 3.15pm had my baby out by 3.30pm thru episiotomy & vacuum. Everything was over within 30 minutes. Dr.Ivan is very skillful in his sewing. I did not feel any pain at all & was talking to him while sewing me. Even after epidural effect was over, there was totally no pain and i was fully recovered by 10 days. I am planning for another baby next year and i know what i’m goin to opt for …induce, epidural, episiotomy &vacuum, that is for sure. I strongly encourage u to opt for epidural and vacuum… make our delivery so much easier. and go for episiotomy bcoz it made our wound heal faster due to an ‘even tear’.
One complaint though, SSP does not promote breastfeeding. They straight away fed baby with formula and did not send the baby to my room for bonding even tho i requested.
Hope the info help.

Lot of info here….well, I’m 5 mth pregnant, and plan to deliver at provate hosp..unfortunately, I still have no idea on where is the good hospital..gynae..etc etc.. Called Pantai Bangsar the other day, and the cost for normal delivery is rougly from 3.3K-6K, while C-section cost start from 6K to 10K.., Assunta cost about 2.5K for normal delivery..I’m looking for hosp in PJ area, cuz I lived at ol’ klang rd..taman desa mc is the nearest, but not my panel hosp, I’m not sure about UMSC, quite close, but don’t think it is listed in my panel hospital..sooo penin…

I delivered my 1st baby in 2008 at SJMC. Done all check-ups with Dr Siti. The queue was long even though you come in the morning. Normally, I registered then went back home/went to Subang Parade or Mid Vallley. The consultation charges was only RM 40…but add with tax, vitamins, etc…will come about RM 100++ per visit. But when blood test is performed…the bill can reach RM 300++.

My delivery was normal, with epidural and vacuum. Stayed at a single room for 3days 2 nights. Food was really nice and even have options just like in flight. Nurses were nice, even the cleaner is friendly. Total bill is around RM 3500.

For Prudential policy holder, you get 30% room rate. You have to pay RM 3000 as deposit once admitted, and RM 6000 if c-section.

I have no complains and in fact satisfied with what I paid for. I’ll be seeing Dr Siti again for my 2nd baby this week.

Hopefully they don’t increase the price since now SJMC is under Sime Darby.

Hannee:

Such a great forum to stumbled upon.

Here’s my 2-cents for all =)
I’m 4 months pregnant w my 1st baby. Currently doing my monthly follow-up w Prof BK Lim at UMSC. He was a natural choice for me because he did my laproscopic surgery to remove dermoid cyst 2 years back. Plus the fact that I carry A LOT of allergies (Paracetamol is one of them), which can be a complication. (Sidetrack: I swear off Ampang Puteri long time ago when a doctor prescribe me Panadol when I reminded her not to)

Anyway if u’re planning to see Prof Lim, pls bring a book or something to read cuz waiting period is usually more than 1-hr. I usually take a number then go off for lunch. His consultation hours are Tue 2-5pm and Fri 5-8pm.

Monthly visits cost approx RM120. My previous visit cost about RM400 cuz he did blood test, etc.

I have no clue on his delivery skills as of yet and have no idea on the delivery process at UMSC. But the last time I was warded for my surgery at Menara Timur (2007), the nurses were great because they took care of me really well.

If you have any history w Prof, do share. Appreciate it =)

Oh yea..forgot to mention dat at the moment, I’m with Dr Suhaimi Isa from Pantai Ampang. He’s very good actually, but now I’m staying in Shah Alam, and UMRA is the nearest to me (in case of emergency). I’m now 35 weeks pregnant with 2nd baby. And also I found out that UMRA is one of the cheapest option. Suddenly feel like trying to deliver in UMRA instead.

hi mama,

thanks.it’ll helps a lot.

Neway, went to UMSC today..soo hard to get a parking, I spent almost 3 hours searching for parking but to no avail. My panel refer me to specialist due to blood spotting, which worsen lately. So I think its worth to try UMSC, but then I’ve to change my mind and went to Pantai Bangsar instead.I’m at 23 weeks, so I think I still got time to choose..

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experience…. Damansara Specialist was sooooooo expensive. This year, I delivered my baby naturally, and the cost was over 6k! I had epidural, induce, 3 nights in single room. The expensive part is the doctors… the pediatrician saw my baby 3 times while we were there and each time it cost almost RM500!! So be very very careful before you choose Damansara Specialist.

Hi Liz. You said that DSH is expensive due to the doctor. May I know which O&G attended to you ? Appreciate the heads up as I am currently seeing Dr Suzanna at DSH and no not know what are her charges yet.

Thanks.

December 30th, 2009 | 1:30 am

I was under Dr. Maziah…DSH….I must say the service was great! But of course la mahal….but what do u expect kan? My baby’s paed is Dato’ Azizi. He’s a nice doctor though the fees are quite expensive. Anyways…I’m ok with DSH….in fact the whole family loves DSH.

December 30th, 2009 | 11:56 am
Liz:

Hi Lin,

My gyane was a sessional doctor, but his fees were reasonable. It was the pediatrician that cost so much. In the bill they called it ‘ward review’ when they come to see your baby in your room for 10 or 15 minutes (without us asking for it), they charge so much.

I think Dr Susanna is a resident dr there, maybe you can ask her for an estimation on how much the delivery cost will be? I tried asking the staff and they wont tell me anything – no wonder… when I saw the bill I almost pengsan!

Hi feaedora,

I’m preggy and from jb jugak.
I’m having my first baby now. Due on Aug-2010. I got the same problem oso finding for best maternity place. Finally i stick with Dr Tan from Tan(England) Maternity Specialist in Taman Pelangi. Check-up kat Taman Pelangi but delivery in Kempas Medical Centre. So far service very good.
For HSI i dont really recommend cause my bestie just delivered baby. During the labour pain, HSI suruh dia balik rumah dulu sebab ramai orang and suruh datang balik kalau betul betul sakit. No choice cause hubby dia worry send to HSA. She got cessarean there. Eventhough dia admitted in first class, dia dengan baby was separated. And no one is allowed to accompany you after delivery. You have to take care you and baby(after giving to you) alone until discharge.

hi syed fareed…salam…
if u ask me where the best private hosp at jb…of course it will be JOHOR SPECIALIST HOSPT.jln abdul samad.better from pakar putri hosp.i bersalin kata sana masa anak pertama.rm2500 normal(3 days 2night).caesaeraean rm5000 but maybe now haraga da naik skit.Dr. hafetz plg the best n top there.kalau u chexk kat pakar perbidanan msia pun.dr. hafetz antara top 5.facilities kat sana pun lebih lengkap berbanding pakar putri hosp or hosp sultanah aminah.
now,im preggy again but i decided nak cari yg murah skit.so,i prefer nak g kat khor & loh kat nusa bestari, skudai.kos dlm rm1300-rm1800.normal.caesarean rm3000-rm3800.itupun lepas i confident kandunagn kali ni xde mslh pe2.biasalah kalau private clinic if kes berat diaorg xleh handle, facilities x cukup.so,diaorg transfer gomen.ok.hope u satisfied with the info….congratulations for u too…future daddy….

I got thru this site by chance as I am doing my masters assignment.I am glad to see all mothers sharing your views. For your information, Selangor Medical Centre is now KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital. We are a Baby Friendly Hospital, thus we encourage breastfeeding.

Hi to all sweet mums !

I’ve been reading the comments non-stop from the beginning to the end.
I’m in week 14th now, my first child. we didnt plan to have a child; when i realized i am expecting a child, 6 weeks or so had passed !
I’m a foreigner here and i live in Ampang, kosas.
I am soooooo woooooorried about delivery and choosing a Dr.
My husband is a student here, in UM uni, we cant afford much.
i need some directions.
a Dr in Global clinik (taman Kosas) suggested Dr micheal samy in gleneagles hospital. its expensive i guess.
she also suggested a Dr. Suhaimi in Pantai Indah medical center.
need help . . .
can i use any kind of insurance to reduce the expences?
:(

I first found this website last year when I was like 6mths preggy.. Good website though, but not enough info on Pantai Bangsar.
Now my son is almost 8mths old.
I safely delivered my bb at Pantai Bangsar through a normal delivery. Once my gynae broke my waterbag, he said I need to be induced, to speed the contraction as my bb had pooped. Otherwise, c-sect! Thankgod i dont have to go for the c-sect… but I took the epidural :) Stayed there for 3D1N..double-bedded. All in all… the bill came about RM5k. I guess the meds were the culprits! If not, maybe it’ll be around RM3.5k.. But you have to put RM5k as a deposit upon warded.. Service was OK. The nurses at the laborward were nice and courteous. They really took care of me as I was a first-timer back then. Just my 2cents. Hope this info helps :)

Masoore,
I have replied to your inquiries but it did not get printed. Since you wrote that your hubby is studying in UM, why not deliver in the UM Hospital. Maybe as a student they might give you a discount. Otherwise you can book in the Hospital Bersalin in General Hospital, Kuala Lumpur. If everything is normal, you just need to stay for a day or two. I delivered my one and only living child there ( in the first class ward).

Din,
I used to take my students there, for clinical attachment. Now I am still working but in a private hospital in Shah Alam.LSCS is not so frightening as it used to be. In a Baby Friendly Hospital The operation is done under spinal. Thisis to ensure that the baby is latched on to the breast or have a skin to skin contact in the OT Itself.I hope that it is a BFHI Hospital as I think it is the government policy to have all government hospital as a BFHI Hospital.

What about acupuncture? I know it’s a bit irrelevant issue, I was just wondering where can I have it for fertility problems?

Hi,I gave birth on 2009 Sept @ DSH,It was a normal delivery + epidural+vacum. The cost was RM4.5k and with double bed.I would say the service was very very bad. They kept me in labour room after I deliver for abt 1hr+ reason no nurse to take me to my wad. Then I was not given any food after delivery..reason they forgot. The worst was they never clean or bath my bb-reason not enough of staff..2nd day while I was going to discharge and I paid CASH..they made me wait 4hr..reason normally discharge take long time and they wanted the paedtriction to come over to see the bb 1st b4 I can go home..ok fine I waited till I could not take no more..I insist the nurse to call the Paed Dr..they Paed dr was in church and said she 4got and could not come..jst ask me to go back home..WTH…The room service was so so bad..the bathroom was so dirty..the sink was leaking..There did not give any extra bed for my hubby ..reason not enough space in the room..so he had to sleep in the chair..All this again cost me RM4.5K..Im not ever going back to the HOSP eventhoug is just next door to my home.
