What is the best milk for my baby?

Posted by admin on Jun 26, 2008

Mums out there,

How can I change my baby’s milk? Is there a proper way of introducing it? As in if she is drinking enfalac now how can I change to another brand of milk.  Pls advice I am so afraid of her tummy getting upset la.

What is the best milk in the market now? Of course aside from breast feeding….

Top 5 Hit-Milk

  1. Enfalac, Enfapro,Enfagrow…
  2. Frisolac, Friso gold
  3. Mamil
  4. S26
  5. Dumex, dugro

Agree?? of Disagree …Can anyone shed some light?

Hi All,
When changing from one brand to another it is good to mix both the brands slowly…like for example if your baby need to change from Enfa to Dugro…use 3:1 then slowly 2:2 n then 1:3 then totally change to the new brand. But there again you have to take time…not change at every feed.maybe every other day.
Also i have heard others say that it is not good to mix the milk…..this is the modern thinking/teaching but ppl in the oldern days do it this way.
Right now my baby is still on breast milk but my produce seem to be dimimnishing…..so i have tried to mix but i only do it about 2-3days a week only ONE feed cos i still want to feed him breast milk for as long as i can.I have started him on solids so his rice cereal is with the formula.
Well….dun really know what is top 5 but i think Enfa n Mamil Gold are the most expensive brands….but someone said that it is closest to breast milk as in smell n taste i think.
My older boy is on Dugro and it is good cos the price is ok…not too high for me.
Well….as long as the kids are growing , it does not really matter what brand they are taking in.
OK…my 4 cents worth.

Well, mmy children all started with Similac IQ bcoz all 3 of them ‘resisted’ breast milk. Hahah, bcoz I produce so little , i guess. My pharmacist recommended this low iron milk, he said too much iron in child might get them bad skin condition.
Then, at 1 year, I switch to SUstagen. My method is quite simple, I simply gave them the chocolate flavoured ones. When they see the diff color they get excited, so it was sooo easy. But be warned, the price actually varies in diff supermarket. Buy them at k4 coz its rm2 / rm1 cheaper than other hypermart

hi mommy do you know any good paediatrics surgeon?? i think my son has a hernia. do you know any good doctor to consult??

I really don’t know much about powdered milk since I fully breastfed my son till he weaned himself off.**breastmilk still the best**
When we started giving him milk powder, he rejected it all so we tried every single brand until we found two brands that he will ‘tolerate’, Fernleaf and Sustagen.
Anyway, regardless of whether the milk has nutrients for IQ or a million other Qs (because all these so-called added nutrients does not mean ALL of it are easily absorbed by the body), what is most important is that it suits your baby’s taste and does not cause any adverse allergic reactions.
It is best to try get sample packs for your baby to try first because each baby is different with different tastes.

My gynae told me all the brands are about the same, coz technology very advanced now, so I think it depends on the taste baby likes. My son is drinking enfa now. I tend to agree that it tastes close to breastmilk – taste terrible :P But guess that’s what baby likes. We dread to drink his milk when he can’t finish them. Feels sayang to throw away.. it’s RM0.30 per ounce u know!

My nico, my sons get circumcised at Kg Baru MC. Their age was then 6 mths and 2 mths old. The surgeon there also can do hernia operation, they’re quite good there. I don;t know his name, though… oh, and the price is quite cheap, around rm130 for babies. Other hosp are as high as rm250++

dear mummies,
my peadiatrician said that technically all milk formulas are made up of same basic ingredients (which is a requirement according to health ministry). what makes it different is the research spent so the company can add this & that to further improve. all formulas are consistently being improved coz no scientist can yet replicate/imitate the nutrients in breast milk. so thats why companys that produce formula like enfa and mamil/friso are expensive is coz they spend a lot on research, membership, etc. summary: all formula in msia is good and provide the basic required nutrients for baby – just need to see if ur baby can tolerate it / likes the taste

My two girls are on the Enfa milk. My eldest daughter (she’s 4+)is on Enfakid and i recently just changed my younger’s daughter milk fr Enfalac to Enfapro. We also do the changing in the traditional way, ie. by 1st mixing them for the first few feedings.

So far i’m very satisfied with the milk except for the pricing that keeps on increasing..:(- Wonder if all the milk also increase in prices?

Of course the best milk is mothers breast milk after pregnancy, but some moms don’t have that option. It looks like you’re on the right track in choosing which one-good luck.

My nico….we decided to circumcise our son a day after he was born. Since I gave birth at Damansara Specialist, Dr. Razak did the honours. He was pretty good. No complications whatsoever n I believe my baby was pretty oblivious of d pain. He didn’t even cry. D recovery was rather quick n easy too. Didn’t have to cover or wrap his ‘thingy’ at all unlike d elder kids who r circumcised. D only thing is tht, as with everything else frm DSH, d fee was pretty high. I think Dr. Razak charged us like rm450. N tht was 2 years ago. Dunno how much is he charging now….Gud luck :)

Some parents seem to prefer Enfa I think cos the price make it seem branded to them.

I prefer Dumex(Mamex) cos the price is cheaper and I compared the nutrients label, about the same so I dunno why Enfa always charge higher even in milk for preggy/breastfeeding moms.

When I preggy/breastfeeing, I also go for Dumex(Mamil mama). It’s also cheaper than Anmum.

If not mistaken, buying from hypermarket is cheaper.

My toddler like strawberry flavored milk from Dugro(Dumex) but sayang, they don produce anymore, why?

Even when got, most places don carry this flavor from Dugro.

Does anyone have the contact no. of Dumex Mamil and Enfa agent? Heard that if buy fr agent it’s much cheaper than the supermarket/hypermarket price (by 10-20%). Pls.. desperately need to source for these agents, as i hope can save abit on the pricey formula milk for my bb (what’s more with price hike in everything) tks. :)

Ever since I found out that one of Dutch Lady milk source is from an Asian country, I got a bit prejudiced with Dutch Lady. In Malaysia, its milk source is from 3 countries, one of them is Thailand (no China don worry).

Then recently Dutch Lady recalled some of its products from Hong Kong because some of the ingredients is sourced from China.

But other brands in Malaysia, the sources all from the Mat Saleh countries one, no Asian countries.

To all new parents, honestly speaking no milk powder is better than breast milk. but, since we are on this topic, i just share with you my experience, my daughter tried uncountable brands milk powders from expensive to not so expensive, she didn’t have stomach problem. It really depending on your budget, 1 thing i don’t believe is some expensive milk powders would advertise that kids drink their milk powder will become smarter as their milk powder has this and this vitamins, no! It’s not. I came across some baby who are drinking those expensive milk powder but they appear to be motionless and not expressive, i am thankful that i have been giving my daughter fernleft (at one point of time), dumex dugro, and the other one is 123, 456 sorry i forgot the brand, she’s also drinking it, she said is not as nice as enfa milk powder, i notice those milk powder from new zealand milk is stronger in taste and maybe the fat content is higher. as for S26 this is a very heaty milk powder, don’t your realise the baby stool will be very hard and sometimes it will bleed? most parents would agree on this. anyway, baby should also be fed with lots of plain water. let me know if you need more thoughts

Enfalac, Enfapro,Enfagrow… They are good and according to my daughter who’s now 7years old says it’s the best, it taste yummy.

baby’s like 2years should also be fed with porridge boiled with “Ma Yau” fish which is good, boiled with frogs is good too and you could boil it with anchovies. all good things must be eaten with moderation, my daughter used to have a bottle of milk in the morning before she leaves for her kindergarten last time, then she will have some snacks in school, return home like 12:30noon, she’ll have her lunch, 3:00pm another bottle of milk, then she could have her ribena, honey, cheese etc, etc, then dinner at around 6:30pm/7:00pm then another bottle of milk like 11:00pm, to me this is already sufficient, in between lots of water. as now she enters primary 1, it’s almost the same only she doesn’t take her 3:00pm milk but her home packed bread from home. she’s still chubby and each time we go out, people would look at her and will come over to ask me what she eats etc… good luck to all new parents.

instead of givin her formula y don u try to increase ur breastmilk production? i have tried using fenugreek and it really is working. u can cook simple vege, chicken, potato soup or any soup u like and add a tablespoon of this wonder seeds in or u can also boil them and drink the water. Try it, if it’s working for me it’ll surely working for u too! :)
