Baby Vaccines & Immunizations = So EX!

mommy2A:
I had my 6 year old son jabbed for d pneumococcal thingy earlier this year. His pediatrician recommended it for school/kindy-going kids since they are more exposed to all sorts of germs n viruses. Cost us about rm150.

Dunno for sure if it really works or not. But I do notice tht he falls sick less frequently as opposed to b4 taking d jab. So guess it works lah kot….

As with everything else…us mommies will always try to provide d best for d kids….d rest…redha n tawakkal…at least we’ve tried our best

anni:

Dear Anni, where are you staying?? I don’t know if this is of any help, but there’s a wonderful pediatrician named Dr. Serena Dass who operates her own pediatric clinic in Bukit Rahman Putra, Sg. Buloh. I cannot recall the exact price, but I can assure you that it is definitely not more than rm200.

We bagan seeing her after seeing Dr. Musa at DSH coz we find it more convenient as we do not have to make any appointment, plus she opens at night as well as on Sundays too. Isn’t that just brilliant??? :)

My practice with both my children is to see Dr. Musa until they turned 1. After that I will find a pediatrician who is closer to the place we live. It makes more sense coz with Dr. Musa, u will have to make appointments and he only opens during office hours. I find this rather tedious and inconvenient.

Anni, the price for patent penunococial jab is rm300 where generic is rm150. This is the standard price for this jab. But some pediatrician only have patent drugs. You may sak the doctor before he/she proceed.

momsie:

anni:- Govt hospitals do not have such services.. Too expensive for them and I think pneumococcal is not a complusory jab as yet. Govt only offers complusory jabs like BCG & maybe rubella.too bad so sad!

is it necessary to give pneumococcal jabs to ur baby? my son’s now 4 months. when is the best time for him to get that jabs? My son will get fever after every jabs (Bcg, Hb, etc..) for at least 1 1/2 days, so, will he get fever when he get pneumococcal jabs?

AP:

LiN,

In Malaysia, the pneumococcal jab is optional, but according to my pediatrician, it is compulsory in UK. My pediatrician recommends that my baby takes the jab at 5-and-half months old becos that’s the only month that has no any other compulsory jabs, and thus ease the mother’s financial burden!

September 27th, 2008 | 3:50 pm
mama:

rachel:

my two kids started their pneumococcal jab since 7 months. From 7 months- 1 year old total have 3 time. There are 10% babies will have fever after this jab. The reason being they start from 7 mths is bcoz they start to get in touch with other kids on this time and those compulsory jab has finish on their 6 mths.

Art4334:

Wah, so many optional jabs… maintaining kids are getting expensive nowadays. The paed that I went today explained bout pneumococcal doses that can be taken optionally at 2,3 n 5 months and another booster at 18 mths. Each jab costs $288. She also mentioned about rotavirus that affects the bowel system which can be taken at 6 weeks n 6 mths, each costing $160.

Just wanna quip, r these jabs really help the immune system or r they goin to compromise the natural antibody system? you know what happen if we take various supplements, right? so, I’m kinda wondering, r we ’socially forced’ to follow the current trend nowadays?

Momz:

ya I agree with Art4334. So confusing. so many different type of jabs and we dun know what is needed. We cna only trust the doc. Hope they will guide us well. U hear about some vaccines that can cause Autism?
