It’s very important to get a good and recommended confinement lady. Mine wasn’t that good so I won’t bother to recommend. Whatever you do, don’t engage confinement ladies from commercialised confinement centres. I wrote about why this is so on my blog. I agree with Penny.I engaged with a wellknown confinement centre in PJ before.I exchange 3 nannies in less than a month!They sent those that were unfit for the job.They either cough,sorethroat or flu.I’m sure that every parent don’t want their newborn to get infected.Plus,these centres like to ask you to top up for their expensive products.

I fully agree with Penny. Do not engage those commercialized confinement centre especially the one in Jalan SS2/3. Their nanny doesn’t have much traditional confinement knowledge (especially in cooking). They just know how to use and push their instant/all-in-one products. If you didn’t take their product and just engage for the nanny service, you are asking for a nightmare. Besides, they only give you 27 days service.

I agreed. My sis signed up & stay in their centrein PJ, the stay in nannies were not enough to handle the mommies & babies. The management not treating well to their staff (nannies), they dont hv enough sleep, dont hv a comfortable place to sleep ( i saw only few thin sponge mattress on the floor, few nannies stuff in a small room. They r too busy (cos lack of nannies) until just simply cook instant mee for their meal (pity them). The furniture r as old as their nannies, the sales person only focusing on pushing their products. This company only look into “MONEY”, they r too business minded. Dear all mommy to be, please dont blindly believe with what u see from the ADVERTISEMENT. (one more secrete to share: they hire nannies, the 1st 2 week is under training, not paying a cent. Most of the new nannies end up stop work after 1 week cos of too long working hour & bad treatment, so the company untung la, pay nothing but pity the nannies work for nothing.) This is not a story but it’s true. This company been sued & the news was in the paper few years ago, that’s why now u can see they r slowly using other name start with ‘D’ instead of ‘P’. Be a smart consumer, be a prettymommy.

I agreed with Dd. I tried out the confinement center. Their confinement lady do not have experience at all. She can’t cook. Can u believe that i had fried chicken during my confinement? I almost vomit blood ..

I’d highly recommend my confinement lady. She’s from Malaysia and her mobile number is 0165932973. She has 10 years of experience and is willing to do some domestic work as well. She speaks Malay, Mandarin and Cantonese (not English though)

another urut lady recommended by someone who have used the service before. Kak nur 0122548603 charge RM80 per session.

Wow! RM50 and RM80 is a big difference if we are doing 10 sessions…i called up one spa center, they are charging RM800 for a 7days session…I think it is pretty expensive. I think I will skip this urut thing as my budget is tight. Thanks everyone for sharing their opinion.

Would just like to share my experience with u all. My EDD is mid March, and after looking for 6 confinement ladies (CL) through network of friends/Internet, we managed to find a CL (sh even had good review posted on one of those mummy websites).

Mind you, we got that CL when I was about 4-5 mths pregnant. And now, just 1 week ago, my supposed to be CL called me up saying she broke her leg after a holiday trip overseas and not able to work for me during my confinement time.

She returned back my deposit, but u know, money is not what I’m worried about… its the last minute of knowing I am on my own.

Anyway, to cut it short, hubby and I decided to have a DIY confinement, so pretty much surfing the Net nowadays to look for more info (I’m not really that into those pantang anyways).

Just thought that I’d like to share with you guys, if possible, even though you have booked a CL, please ensure she don’t go holidays here and there right before you are due to deliver.

You’re so great, I could not imagine how you DIY during your confinement especially the first few days back home or first week. I totally agree with breastfeeding and handling our own baby as much as we can but in the same time don’t you think that a good rest is also very important especially for the first week as the wound has not heal yet? My first experience wasn’t that good as I’d painful wound for almost 2 weeks. I’m so in dilemma; as I’m quite terrified with having a complete stranger handling my vulnerable baby.

Hi All, Yes i love Kak Ani’s massage. She msg from head to toes, mainly to remove wind. She got choices of baby oil, cream and herbs too. Up to you choice. Tell u wat, she is using branded product.. i was so surprise!

She has been coming to my house for 2 times aldi, and now break on weekend. Monday another session. Frankly speaking with the rate she charging is really super value! I delivered my daughter in Sunway Medical Centre in 2002, my gynae was Dr. Noor Aini (female doctor), she’s very experience and knowlegeable.

On Confinement Lady
I didn’t have any confinement lady, my mother in law and maid cooked for me, back then I didn’t have any appetite to eat, we got a lady just to come in to help bathe my baby for like a month, then I bathe her myself, I took care of my own baby after I discharged from the hospital i.e. the 6th day onwards, but, no regrets looking after her myself though I looked awfully tired like zombie, imagine I didn’t lie down the whole day throughout, I changed diapers (not those disposable ones), wiped her, changed clothes, feed her etc, it was tired. For those who has the budget to get in a confinement lady is good so that you get to rest, it’s the time for you to recuperate so if possible rest well and eat well otherwise you will have backache etc like me. however, i don’t have any confinement lady to recommend, very sorry. But as for chinese, it’s the usual drink rice wine, pork with black vinegar, drink red dates (without the seed), drink must sit down, bath with herbs water, ah for those of you who had C-Section, remember please don’t take egg as your wound will not heal nicely and for some like me will get pus (nana).

I am 6 and 1/2 months pregnant. My mom got me a confinement lady from Kedah. I have seen how she worked when she was taking care of my 3rd sister inlaw and her baby. She even cooks and wash clothes (except ironing) for my brother as they have no maid. She takes care of the baby at night as well and cooks all the Chinese herbal dishes for my sister in law. My mom says she takes RM 2500 for a month (standard rate in the north). I’ve looked around for a CL around Klang Valley. Its about RM3000+ here. Unfortunately, she is not available till next year.

If you are delivering in Kuching you may wish to consider staying in a confinement home rather than hiring confinement ladies off the street! Our rates are competitive even though our level of care is by nursing staff, 24 hour, and definitely no “falling asleep on the job – or sleeping while you sleep!!”
we provide also home visits by our staff, and can look after your baby alone, should you for one reason or another be unable to do so during the period.
Short term stay of a few days to a month is possible e.g post caesarean or earlier than your confinement lady is free or termination of unsatisfactory nanny!!
when u employ a nanny, do send her for Hepatitis B, VDRL or HIV checks, just as u would a foriegn worker, because she is going to be closely handling your precious newborn, and making the feeds, and handling the still raw umbilical cord. If she is infected, the baby can easily get infected from her saliva or bodily fluids or poor hygeine,
whether intentional or otherwise.
