YS:

Go to the traditional chinese medicine shop and buy some bathing herbs for jaundice. My baby got a very high level jaundice, manage to control by bathing with this herb, cured after a few days.

I had the same experience with u…that time my bb was admited…anyway, my case doc asked me to stop breastfeeding for 3 days. He suspected it was the breastmilk jaundice…it maybe be true because during confinement i took jamu…anyway, dun wori…ur baby will be fine…

Same here. I agree with YS. After few days of using the Chinese herb, it went away. Don’t stop breastfeeding but you must stop eating (at least until the jaundice subside)all sorts of jamu or anything like that. All the best to you.

1st time mom:

My baby had jaundice on 1st week too. In fact, it is so common that i do not know any friend’s baby that do not have jaundice. Maybe it is caused by the food we eat during pregnancy or confinement.

If you do not have this problem, please share with us your tips.

For my baby, we brought him back to the hospital for the ‘light’ thing for 1 day. The level reduce alot, and after that, we bath baby using the Chinese herbs at home.

My son also was readmitted to the hosp for the ‘photo-treatment’ for jaundice. The yellow-ness lasted almost 6 weeks. As long as the billirubin count is normal, baby is ok. We even tried bathing him in Guinness Stout! yeah… serious. I really don’t know if it helped. Didn’t take herbs, didn’t take much confinement food (PLEASE go easy on the ginger as they seem to aggravate jaundice). Not necessary to stop breastfeeding. Jaundice usually tapers off. But if u notice baby is still very yellow do check with pediatrician often. Otherwise, enjoy ur newborn! :)

my son is now 3 1/2 yrs old. he had jaundice starting from day 2 until he is almost 8 weeks old. he had frequent explosive motion & it really worries us. we’ve tried bathing him in all sort of herbs, stopped breast milk, put him under sunlight, few visits to docs & etc but it does not help. anyhow when he is almost 8 weeks old, his condition improved very well & thank god that he recover before i start working. i really hope that ur BB will recover soon.

My son was little yellow and after he got circumcised everything went back to normal. If your baby is male then that is one of the cures that will never happen again, and some people don’t like doing that. I hope that helps.

dear mommies, prolonged jaundice did sound scary to new mom. Pls do not stop breastfeeding, if a Dr ask to stop, this Dr has learn very little about breastfeeding. My daughter also was diagnosed breastmilk jaundice but still continue to be breastfed. She recovered. I would advice better stay all herbs from both baby (even bath as baby skin is so thin, the absorption can be great) and mommy as those are not evidence based.

Hi Lily, i was delivered on last 30th august. on the 3rd day, my baby have jaundice. one time admitted for 3 days, then it increase again. go to the specialist, rent a fototeraphy to do at home for 3 days. still not decrease. try to bath with macam-macam la…. then, on the 27th day, i brought my baby to my mom in law, since my mil is medical nursing instructor. my mil take care of him, give him formula milk at night time (she sleep with my baby). only for three days, my baby was fully recovered from jaundice. the moral is, jaundice baby is only need to have a very much feeds, so the jaundice will throw away with the motion. that is my experience with jaundice. now my baby was 4 months old with 8 kg….huhuhu…

Tata:

Hi, my dotter had jaundice, breastmilk jaundice to be precise, for 6 months. There’s 3 types of jaundice, and it is almost common nowadays in newborn, esp. born early, as the liver has yet developed fully to process the extra ‘thing’ (can’t remember what it is) that causes jaundice. the bilirubin count may increase in time, but as baby grows, the harmful bilirubin count that is dangerous for baby also changes. Don’t stop breastfeeding, even if it is breastmilk jaundice. Jaundice baby tend to be sleepy or tired, must wake them up for feeding. Heard abt the chinese herb, didn’t try but seemed to work for most ppl. Most importantly, last time people used to sunbath the baby, don’t do this too as the sun ray now is harmful, unlike centuries ago.

Hi Mommies,

Both of my girls got jaundice after 2 or 3 days born..doc said mother with blood type O, the chances baby got jaundice is high (all about blood rhesus +ve -ve…need to read more on this)…for my case, normally it will ok not max than 2 weeks..but most important, brestfeed/milk for baby, dont stop…but i also read/heard about milk jaundice…maybe need to stop eat jamu,in this case.

January 29th, 2009 | 1:38 pm

Hi My baby had jaundice from 2nd day, admitted for 3 days, but level came out is only 12, then did blood tests at clinic every 2 days, level went up and down. Now at 2 weeks, still monitoring, Doc ask not to take Jamu, if take ginger don’t feed baby breastmilk immediately.

I had the same experience, whereby my bb girl who was born prematurely(32 wks) has prolong jaundice for 2 mths +. Went to Specialist at HKL, unable to detect, they took my bb’s girl 5 tubes of bloods & 1 tube of urine and was sent to IJN for examination, luckily result is ok. As a mom, of course I worried, some said, should feed her goat milk, sunbathe, use chinese herbs to take bath and so on. However I didn’t do any of that due to, i) goat milk – bb might allergy and hard to digest
ii) sunbath – will affect bb eyes’ sight
iii) chinese herbs bath – bb skin too delicate to give unnessary herbs.
And now my girl is 1 yr +, she is healthy. So I strongly believe, just like Tata said, the bb’s liver will slowly adjust to fit the new condition (the liver has yet developed fully to process the causes of jaundice). And dont stop breastfeeding, instead stop taking “jamu” as it might cause diarrhea to your bb. Am glad that I didnt stop breastfeeding at that time, my girl is still breastfeeding till now.

Jen:

My baby is 1 month old and still has jaundice. We spent 3 days in the hospital under phototherpy. It went up and down while we were there. His level was 12.4 when we left. At his 1 month check-up doc wanted to retest. It is now at 13.4. I breastfeed exclusively and don’t want to stop. Is there something I can do to rid this? I don’t want this to continue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

hai jen,
my bb also got jaundice on his 3rd day, admitted to the hospital for phototheraphy and the level up and down…what the doc said is u have to keep feed ur baby whether breastfeed or formula to ensure ur baby ‘poops’..the jaundice will throw away through this…i never tried goat’s milk but i did try the chinese herbs to bath my baby…it did work for me and the level reduced within two weeks..

Hi my baby is pre term came out 36 weeks 1 day old. Like a lot of you, we just went to Doc today (4 weeks 5 days old) and they say he has prolonged jaundice. Would like to know what is jamu…

i suggest you bring your baby to visit a doctor and get blood test just in case, i am not frightening you but i have recently heard from a friend of mine, a baby passed away because of jaundice. if the blood test is okay, then you could go for the chinese herbs for your baby. anyway, some doctors are not trustworthy as these days there are just too many unethical doctors around, if in the event your doctor said your baby has problem, always seek 2nd opinion. i have a family doctor, it’s a clinic, but this doctor is very experience and good, you might want to call him Dr Ahmad / Klinik Segera (since i live in Subang Jaya) i will visit him at this clinic, his clinic tel no is 03-5633 8197, sometimes he’s not on duty, therefore, do try. if he’s around, you could ask the nurses to transfer the line to him, explain to him over the phone and listen whether he knows what happens, if he wants to meet your baby for blood test, just bring along, if he advise you to go to the hospital then you will have to bring your baby

April 21st, 2009 | 12:15 pm

2 of my kids just used chinese herbs for their bath for 3 days and the jaundice disappeared. but be careful if its prolonged, then need to get doctor’s advise. need to do blood test to ensure the liver is functioning well. give the baby more drink either milk or water.

You may try out to feed your baby with grape juice. Must be fresh green grape which u can get it easily from the market. I do the same for my bb when he had the same problem in the first 2 weeks. Cheap & effective. Stop eating ginger if you are still breastfeeding.

I just bought a car with Bluetooth that is designed to import contact numbers from my iPhone. I can use the phone to make and receive calls through the car, but I cannot get the phone book numbers to transfer to the car. Any thoughts?
