For it was like a bad stomachache + backache. The pain can be relief by kept rubbing the lower back. Also, I took very hot bath to relief the pain**lucky I did, else 1month month cannot bath*. Touch wood I didn’t have Braxton Hicks Contract.

You are having a contraction when your uterus hardens. When you touch your stomach during a contraction, it is very hard. Braxton Hicks contractions feel like that as well, but they are not painful.

False contractions do not occur on a regular basis, where as real contractions appear systematically, and will became closer and closer as time progresses. Eg. from every 20 minutes to every 10 minutes.

Speak to your gynae about it. He/she will tell you the signs of labour and when you should be admitted.

Good Luck!

yes, sonia is right braxton hicks does not hurt you just feel like you’re having period cramps…

and you can time your contractions, should it be every 10 minute, wait no more just get to the hospital…

not forgetting you might be staining too, if its period like its fine but if its a little different and there’s other colors aswell… you ought to rush straight away!

take care, n break a leg!

you will know when you’re having contractions as it comes and goes within closer intervals and pain is more and more intense. the pain for me was somewhat like period cramps.

If you get them 4 mins apart(do check up on this)then that’s the time you go to the hospital. But if you feel like you’re having them in one hour and nothing the next, or sometimes a few times a day, then that is probably BH. I

It’s a sure thing if it’s consistent. These contractions won’t disappear till its time to push :)

Hope all will be smooth for you..

for sure you’l feel the hardening of the stomach bum.its called the ‘tightening’
but note that not everyone will feel the intense pain at the early stages. during my second pregnancy, i had the tightening but no pain at all!! upon checkup i was already 3-4cm dilated.
like the rest told you, learn to time the contraaction, the consistency and level of pain will guide you.
BH will go after good rest, a true labor will not, but getting more intense (n more painful!)
from what i heard, there are 2 types of contraction, some people wil lhave the back pain, some have the lower stomach pain (wic i did as early as 25w but dr brushed it up as infections!) gynae told me usuallu contraction will start from the side of your stomach.
good luck

Contractions.. hmmm.. how to explain in layman terms.. if you’ve experienced period pain before, you can say it feels something like that, only the pain is 100x harder and it attacks your back and your lower body part, from waist to your leg.. and it will strikes at a countable time like, 30 minutes once, then 20 minutes once.. and dropped down until about 2 minutes once.. and dear, do not worry, when the time comes, you SURELY will know that ‘it is time..!!”

Hi Mumof2,

Hahaaa.. i’ll take that as a compliment and thanks ..i’m just a normal working mom, trying to be and understand the best for my babies.. but i do a lot of research though.. on contractions, preganncies, breastfeeding, babies colics, jaundice etc.. sometimes when you really put the whole of yourself into something, you can be the “expert”.. well if not to everybody, experts to your babies and your own self is far than enough i think..at least when it happens, you don get panic easily.. :)

I’m 38 weeks and having period like pain in the pelvis area, I can even feel it in my thighs a little.. what does that mean?

Hi newmummy2be,

It is only contractions when the uterus hardens and the hardening comes consistently, and gets closer and closer as time progresses, and it hurts like hell :) . Other than that, it just one of the discomforts of pregnancy unfortunately.

But if you are nervous, just give your doctor a call and see what he/she says.

newmummy2be,

I think that is normal at 38 weeks as the baby is already “went down”, prepared himself to be engaged to its “door” once it is time for the baby to be deliver.. normally, it wont be long before you are going to deliver. The longer is around one week. So.. be prepared, dear! it almost time! and.. good luck! :D

Don’t worry mommy2be. I had the same thing. You can’t be admitted until you reach a stage where the contractions are close together. Just relax and wait for the real thing!
