PJ as in Petaling Jaya? Sorry just needed to clarify
Hi. Actually I have a special need child myself. He is 7 now. The first thing that u have to do is to have a government doctor have a look and do an assessment on him/her. Ask the doctor to fill the welfare form for the appropriate age and submit the forms and the required documents to the jabatan kebajikan masyarakat (if u live in PJ or Selangor area, u can go to the building next to the subang parade). u will the welfare card in few months time if i’m not mistaken. after that u can go and register the child to any special ed school.
As for me, i send my son to a special daycare BANGSA RIA CENTRE in jalan Bukit (near PPUM). i pay RM350 and they care for him 8am-5pm. I also send my son to Wisma Harapan in Brickfields. They have EIP (until age 6), special ed class (until 18) and vocational class(18 and above). I pay around RM50 per month. He also go to Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK) in Pantai Dalam (this one have no age limit i think). This one is free but u just have to pay for the registration fee which is RM10. there is also mainstream school such as Sekolah Alam Shah in jalan Bukit, PJ(section 11) that have special ed classes, but u have to register with the Kementerian Pendidikan under pendidikan Khas (if in Selangor u can go to Shah alam).
These places are just the tip of an iceberg. there are a lot more out there. but most of the place is either out of ur way or just too expensive for u. If u can afford it why not? but if u can’t, u might want to consider the places that I have mentioned above. If u have any questions that u might want to ask or share with me, feel free to email me at anne371979@gmail.com.
GOOD LUCK!
There is a site http://www.disabilitymalaysia.com. Very informative. Whoever has special child at home may find this site useful.
